This was to be our first cruise with HAL, after many years of sailing the smaller luxury lines, I went with an open mind on HAL, and ended up being extremely impressed! We boarded in FL after having a couple of days at the Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort in Miami.Upon arrival we were escorted to a private area at the port, from which we would join our penthouse. We were taken onto the ship prior to the other guests and introduced to the staff in the Neptune lounge, Jasmine and Mel, who could not do enough for us! We were taken to our fantastic suite, which was out of this world and full of fresh flowers (3 large arrangements in total),and Champagne on ice. The room met all of our expectations and more, and provided the perfect base for cruising the Caribbean. The room was exactly as advertised, and we loved the jacuzzi on our balcony, perfect for our own sail away party! Room amenities and extras like the laundry service were excellent, items were returned quickly and in good condition. The staff could not do enough to help us, and our room team (3 stewards), were all lovely and always smiley and helpful. We experienced smiles from all of the ships staff, and everyone was willing to help. We had all our breakfasts in the Pinnacle restaurant, and some evening meals, all of which were faultless, and a credit to Peter the manager. The Tamarind was equally as good, in service and food, and it was easy to see why it was popular.I had read about the lido buffet being busy at times but we never found this, I thought the selection and quality of the food for a buffet was very good, considering it had to cater to a variety of tastes.
My only disappointment was the Main dining room, which I felt the food was just average, the staff were attentive, but a little less than we had experienced elsewhere, but the whole experience was just good.I think the fact that we went there on formal night, and alot of people were not adhering to the dress code let things down a little. However, you can't please em' all!
We were a bit boring really and did little in the form of activites, just wanted to relax. Entertainment was varied and the bits of shows we did see looked quite professional. We liked the lack of announcements, which kept up an all over quality feel of the ship.
The spa and salon services were very good, and staff very pleasant. We went off ship at every port, and were disappointed in Turks and Caicos,I don't know what I was expecting though. Enjoyed revisiting San Juan,ST Thomas and LOVED Half Moon Cay, how perfect can an island be?
To summarise, we had a wonderful time and shall return to HAL.
