Flying to the ship is the only awful part of traveling! but one must grit one teeth! Our 2nd time on QM2 my 7th Cunard Cruise and my 40th cruise,sea/river! We stay over night in NY a day before our departure as we like to be fresh for sailing the following day. Found a great economical "limo" service from airport and to the dock in Brooklyn...Dial 7...much cheaper than using the transfers from Cunard. We opted to sail over to Southampton and back ,we thought we would be the only ones...400 other passengers did the same! The sailing was sold out but boarding as a "grille" passengers certainly moved things along...a great perk indeed. We were on board in no time. Our cabin on Deck 10 1068 was very spacious with more than enough room for all my stuff....walk- in closet...yes! We were greeted promptly by our cabin attendant and our luggage was to quick to follow...our first time in the Princess Grille were were eager to see what it looked like. We were greeted warmly and seated at table for 7. It turned out to be great group of table mates and wonderful conversation each evening! The food on QM2 is great and service wonderful, one night we had beef wellington that was over the top delicious, desserts to wonderful and excellent soups...table service...with the rolling cart..how old world is that! We did dine in the Princess Grille for lunch and a few am for breakfast...and just to be a glutton we also went to the Queen's Lounge for drinks and hot Hor'douvres...we also discovered hot scones in the lounge at tea time....don't worry about gaining weight..just by pass the lifts and use the stairs...all day...my poor knees! We just the day in Southampton to explore the Maritime Museum within walking distance of the ship...small but really neat displays. Walked back in time for lunch! We loved the ship on our first crossing 2007 NY-Southampton even tho we had read terrible reviews for us its a good fit! We loved all the lectures, and evening productions, classical music concerts, and dancing in the Queen's Lounge after dinner..so much to do so little time...This ship is not for everyone. If you enjoy dressing for dinner, meeting interesting people, and taking in all the activities...you will like this ship...sure there are small things that were wrong...but travel is an adventure..so get out there and have fun on QM2!
