We booked a cruise on the Carnival Legend out of Tampa only because some friends of ours were going on it........first time cruiser's and they had asked us to join them and show them the ropes. I really didn't want to go on the Legend as it would be air fare from Houston to Tampa and in reality, we could just drive to Galveston and get on the Royal Caribbean, Voyager of the Sea and get to the exact same ports without the air fare..........but, they had already booked the Carnival Legend. The ship was a bit smaller than I was use to and didn't seem to have alot of activities going on. It was February and left from Tampa........alot of older people....seemed like the average age was above 65. We decided to try the "any time dining" on Carnival...we had done that before on other cruise lines. I am not sure how long they had offered it on the Legend, but it seemed as though they were still working out the kinks. The service was very slow. I never got my tea refilled without have to hunt a waiter down. The bar service was a bit slow to come around on some areas of the ship.........usually they are "hunting" you down everywhere you go, but we found some times, we couldn't find a bar server. We did have a great bar server at the pool that ALWAYS knew our names....that was nice! Our cabin was booked as an inside cabin and right before we left our Internet travel agent called and said we had been upgraded to an obstructed view with French doors. Basically it was a room with french doors that open to a large life boat in your window. If we hunched over a bit, we could see water and of course hear the waves. It wouldn't have been an upgrade that I would have payed for, but the room was nice! Lots of closet space, bathroom was nice. It had a couch and small table. We had an awesome cabin steward that always had our room clean quickly while we were out and about. I think the cabin was the best part of the cruise as we were a little disappointed with the rest of the ship. The last day at sea was very rough with 30mph headwinds.......the engines must have been working hard and something malfunctioned with one of the engines that caused the speed to decrease. The captain came on the loud speaker and said we would be late getting into Tampa, but at this point, he didn't know how late. Everyone was scrambling to call home and re-book flights. It was a little hectic. Carnival did handle that as best they could. They opened the phone lines for the ship......although I never was able to get through...always busy. I then decided to try to re-book on line....the Internet room was FULL and a wait line. The passengers were under the assumption that ALL the computers were FREE....when in reality, just 2 select computers were no charge. Not sure if Carnival reimbursed passengers that used regular computers. Carnival DID give us $200 per person to change flights and if needed a hotel room in Tampa and food money. I felt they did the best they could under the circumstances.
