My family and I spent several months researching available cruises that were available for January 2010. We finally decided on the Carnival Destiny which sailed out of Miami on January 30th for 5 nights. Ports of call included Jamaica and Ocho Rios, however with less than a 24 hour notice of our travel departure, we were notified that the ship had a problem with its traveling speed and could not go to the original ports of call and instead would visit Cozumel and Costa Maya. We could either accept the change or receive a cruise credit for the amount we had paid + a $50 per person on-board credit for the change. Since we had our motel, flight, and transfers paid for we felt we had to take the changed sailing, (or be out $$$$ on prepaids.) We were very disappointed with the port changes since we had been to Cozumel before. (we had not been to Costa Maya so that helped...somewhat.) We like to travel to areas we have never been to and were looking so forward to JAMAICA and the CAYMAN ISLANDS.

We arrived at the Miami port at about 11 a.m by motel shuttle and were on the Destiny around 11:45. Embarkation was very smooth and efficient. On-board we found the ship to be very nice and clean with a fairly easy layout of decks. Since we were not able to enter our room until after 1:30 we had lunch (buffet) on the lido deck. Buffet food throughout the cruise was okay to good ..many similar items each day - when we had breakfast and lunch. The dining room food is good to very good with several menu choices daily. Also, pizza and Ice cream/24 seven. They had a late night taco buffet one night but we did not attend.

The nightly shows ranged from okay to excellent. Our least favorite was when they let 5 random people perform for one night of entertainment. Other nights included comedians and a Vegas type show..they were good/very good and the juggler/comedian was excellent.

Cabin Review

Cabin ov

Our cabin was 2120 located on the Main deck. (forward area) Ocean view with window. Two twin beds that convert to one king. One upper pull-down twin bed on right wall...under it is one lower twin bed. My 6'6/225lb son fit fairly comfortable on the lower bed. Not very noisy except when waves occasionally hit the boat - making a loud bang... this happened the last two nights for a couple of hours on and off. Ample closet/storage
