It has been my experience that Princess cruises are generally more expensive than other contemporary cruise lines and therefore I expected a higher standard. On the plus side Princess check in was a breeze, leaving the ship was not so pleasant. When we found our room it had not been quite ready. I first noticed that the bed looked very lumpy and not the usual smooth and taunt sheets that I expected. The balcony partition was open to the next room. The 1 house coat looked like it had been worn. A few hours later when I found the room steward I asked him into the room to show him all my concerns. He locked the balcony partition and told me that he replaced the housecoat that morning. Maybe I should have told him to throw it out in the garbage and bring a new one. I found the toiletries in the bathroom substandard. The first day we had 1 shampoo, 1 lotion and 2 bars of soap. Day 2 we had another shampoo and another bar of soap. Finally on day 3 the conditioner showed up. These might be dumb complaints but even on Carnival you get a basket of various toiletries just as you would in a 5 star hotel. The meals on the ship were OK. I was surprised at the wine list though. There was a lot of North American wine but not a lot of selection from elsewhere. I did like the silverware. The place settings were plain and not unlike what I find at Home Sense. The one thing that was most enjoyable was the entertainment. I have very strong opinions when it comes to entertainment because I worked in the entertainment business and the stage productions were by far the best that I had seen on any ship. As far as shore excursions go find your own off the ship. Would I cruise Princess again, yes, but when it comes down to it most ships are very similar. What makes or breaks a cruise is the staff and how accommodating they are to you. It is always nice to be friendly with the room steward and wait staff. The staff on the Crown were not as friendly as what I am used to. They will easily be forgotten. And so will this cruise
