My wife and I booked at the last minute and obtained stateroom 9158 classified as a Family Ocean View on the Celebrity Cruises internet site. This was our first cruise so this review may not reflect more experienced cruise critics. Our flight through American Airlines left Toronto at 6:20 A.M.and was scheduled to arrive in Miami at 9:35 A.M. Information on the Internet said to be at the airport 3 hours ahead of time due to the attempted terrorist attack during the Christmas holiday period. We arrived at Pearson International at 3:00 A.M. to find that American Airline personnel do not open until 3:30 A.M.We were very close to the start of the lineup that was 150 to 200 people long by the time AA personnel opened for business. We moved on to American customs which did not open until 4:30 A.M., went through the regular machine check and then about 100 feet past it had to endure a physical pat down check. Once we arrived at the designated gate my appearance ( haggard & grumpy ) must have triggered security personnel's interest and I was given another physical check. Canadian regulations do not allow any carry-ons despite it being an AA flight. On our return flights coming from the US we were allowed a carry-on, maybe both countries need to coordinate their security regulations. We arrived in Miami on time and caught our flight to San Juan arriving there at around 2:40 P.M. two of our bags showed up on time but the third one with my suit and clothes was missing. I filed appropriate information with AA baggage personnel and it arrived that night just before we sailed. My wife and I were impressed by the size of the stateroom but found that there is noise coming from the buffet area above around 11:30 - 12:00 P.M. and 6:30 to 7:00 A.M. This was probably caused by staff moving chairs tables etc. I would suggest that if you like to sleep in as my wife does that a lower deck stateroom should be booked when looking for an aft stateroom. We got off in St.Thomas as my wife was looking for jewelery and she spent almost as much as we payed for the cruise and flights. She has had major medical problems in the past two years so she had not bought anything during that time. It was unfortunate that it rained most of the time in St. Thomas so we did not take any excursions. We did not leave the ship in St. Croix as my wife was tired out from the previous day's shopping spree. On St. Kitts we took a tour with Gray's Island Excursions. Thenford Gray, himself, took us on a tour of the island which we thoroughly enjoyed. He dropped off a group from the Equinox, that was in port the same day, at a beach and took my wife and I to see Brimstone Hill Fortress and a plantation once owned by Thomas Jefferson's great grandfather. I recommend Thenford to anyone who wants to see and hear about St. Kitts. My wife and I went into the shopping area just off the dock in Antiqua but the aggresive attitude exhibited by the taxi drivers caused us to return to the ship instaed of taking a tour of the island. People who did get out of the port area said they enjoyed their excursions. On St. Lucia we had booked a tour through Cosol Tours. Cosol himself did not accompany us and the tour which went to a banana plantation. the Pitons, volcanoe , beach was not as well done as that in St. Kitts. We found the Summit to be a wonderful place to relax after coming back to port after an excursion. The Cosmopoliton had food which caused us to attend the 6:00 P.M. seating every night except for the one when we went to the Normandie. We explored the Summit every evening and during days when we did not go on an excursion. My wife and especially liked the Cova Bar where we talked to Zora almost every day. Joseph and Roberto took care of our stateroom and kept it spotless. Ignatius and Ramajan were our servers in the Cosmopolitan and always provided exceptional service. I highly recommend having a least one meal at the Normandie, their filet mignon can be cut with a regular knife. My wife enjoyed the cruise so much that she wants to take one to Alaska in the fall or spring 2011. All the personnel we encountered on the Summit made our first cruise experience a happy and enjoyable one and we will be booking with Celebrity again.
