MSC Poesia Jan 16-23 2010 Review

Sail Date: January 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

The MSC Poesia is a beautiful ship and they keep it spotless.

The cabins are small but make good use of the space.

The food is only OK. Nothing awful but nothing great.

MSC is a European line and thus have a liberal smoking policy. Good if you are a smoker, bad if you detest smoking.

The onboard shopping has no convenience items so pack carefully.

The itinerary was great. Only one "at sea" day. Could have used a few more hours in port, especially Key West.

Embarkation was smooth and got our bags at 3:22PM - a new record.

Disemarkation was a tad slow but nothing to get riled over.

Kids club was adequate and the staff worked rather hard. No kids pool, unless you count the 6-inch deep kiddie pond.

The pools are unheated and do not have a shallow end for shorter people or kids.

Charges on the ship for drinks, gelato, excursions, etc were reasonable.

We got an outstanding rate with More kid sail free. It is hard to complain when the cruise line is not making any money off the discounted rates.

I would sail MSC again, but I prefer Celebrity. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Not much to see and do in Cozumel unless you are a diver. The beaches ate strewn with litter.

Great excursions. Loved the stingrays. Hard Rock for lunch was way too expensive with the exchange rate. Should've gone back to the ship to eat.

Time in port was way too short. Life in Key West gets started late. We had to be back onboard at 13:00, as such, we couldn't get lunch at Sloppy Joe's becaused they dont open til 12:00.

Best to rent a driver for $25 an hour and got to Negril. Nice people and music.

Not a very exciting port of call. Most people go to the Atlantis. I'm a Vegas rat, so I've seen better.
