This was our third cruise on the Jewel and she continues to impress us. Although over five years old now she still looks good to us. Very clean and well maintained.
Note to NCL: We found the staff on the Jewel to be terrific. Very friendly and courteous and sincere in their desire to provide good service. In particular our cabin stewards were great - from day one always called us by name and often asked if everything was ok in the cabin. We also found most of the wait staff to be friendly and courteous. We always ate free style so almost never had the same waiter twice.
Pro's of the January 10-17, 2010 cruise: Embarcation was about as perfect as NCL could make it. We boarded early as the bus line that we took to get to the cruise ship was very early but NCL let us in as the weather was cold. We literally sailed through the check in and once on board went to eat at Azura's. They said that the cabins would not be available until 2p.m. and at five minutes before they announced that the cabins were ready. Our luggage arrived at exactly the same time we entered our cabin. It was a miracle.
Cabin 11100 listed as a mini-suite. Large closet that is difficult to get to because of the bed location. Only one person at a time can get into the closet and dress nearby. Kind of clumsy and inconvenient. The balcony was pretty nice but if your neighbors on either side say anything or sneeze while on the balcony you will hear it. We chose this cabin because if was close to mid-ship and did not have a connecting door to the next cabin. Sometimes noise can filter through the thin connecting doors. We did experience some noise from the deck above as it was the Garden Cafe which is the busiest of all the places to eat on the ship. On a couple of evenings I could hear tables and chairs being moved during cleaning time.
