We live 40 miles from the Port of LA, so getting to the ship is never a problem on Sun morning. Being we had no reason to be home on Sat, we booked the park & sail at the Crowne Plaza so we could start our trip a day early. It was a great idea and we would do it again in a heartbeat. We were able to check in at 11:00am park the car and go straight to our room. We dropped off our stuff and headed out for a lite lunch accompanied by too many Bloody Marys. We highly recommend the San Pedro Brewery two blocks up from the CP.
We then walked up the harbor to a restaurant with an outdoor patio so we could watch the Princess ship sail out. Then back to the brewery for dinner. The hotel pkg came with two free drinks in the lounge so after a night-cap we headed to the room to get a good nights sleep.
Sun 4:30am, I was out of bed at the window waiting for the Mariner to sail in, she didnt arrive until almost 6:00, so once she was docked I hit the pillows for a little more shut-eye. We had a coupon for free breakfast, but wanted to save out appitites for the Windjammer. So after checking out at 9:00am we opted to not take the complimentary shuttle, and walked our luggage from the hotel to the ship. It took about 30mins and was a beautiful walk.
We have been in a JR suite for our last few cruised, but this time it was a D1. The space is used very well, although it is hard to pass each other going from one side to the other, as its not very wide. The balcony was good sized and very private.
Storage was very good. Three drawers went unused, as did a few shelves. The bathroom was a typical cruise ship size, with round glass doors on the shower, which is better than the clingy shower curtain.
