Great new ship!

Sail Date: January 2010
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Port Canaveral

Just returned from the 1/9 Western Caribbean sailing on the Dream. This was our 3rd cruise with Carnival. With the exception of the weather, this was a wonderful cruise.

Embarkation - Easy. We arrived at the Port at around 12-30 and we onboard within a 1/2 hour. Some people said lines were longer later, and it was very cold (35F) that day.

Cabin- We had a standard balcony. As stated in previous reviews, the soundproofing is lacking, but otherwise they are very nice. Cabin steward was the best we have had so far.

Ship - Very familiar format to Conquest and Destiny class ships. I liked the new addition of the outside Lanai on deck 5. It really opened up the ship and was a nice walk closer to the water. The Ocean plaza and add'tl areas for the entertainment to play was nice. We did not get any of the "sewer" smell. We asked the staff about it, and the girl in the spa said that they seemed to have that resolved. Only heard noise when docking one day More (Cozumel).

Dining- Dining room was typical Carnival. I enjoyed all my meals, not 5 star, but good. Service was BEST we ever had. It's obvious they have under-staffed this ship- but our team did a great job. They did comment on the distance to the galley vs. Conquest class ships. Ate at Chef's art - Food was wonderful - on par with good steak/seafood restaurant on land. The service was also 5 star that night. Lido deck - We only saw long lines for Mongolian and Deli at lunch. Otherwise service was quick, even on Embarkation day. The Pasta bar is a great add! I agree with the CC review, this should be open for dinner - perfect for a casual family meal. We waited 15-20 mins each time, but you had a table and could eat salad and bread. Not a issue at all.

Cruise Notes- Tendering process in Belize was easy. We were on a Carnival tour, and left right on time. They seem to have perfected this process now. Enjoyed the Comedy club concept - All the comedians were great. Only downfall was MC Jeff "the fun dude" reused jokes from night to night. He was PAINFUL to watch. Hope they add this to more ships. Service all over the ship was VERY good, you could tell they were working hard.

Debarkation - Only downfall is that it was SO early. we did luggage express. Well worth $20 per bag. Bags arrived at home airport no problem. We were off ship and thru CBP within 25 Mins. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

Did a great tour River Wallace and Altun Ha. This is a wonderful stop - however make sure you have some sort of tour planed or you will be bored.

Only beach day on cruise due to weather. Enjoyed the small town, be prepared for many locals selling items on the beach, but it's Mexico you should expect that unless you do a private beach tour.

Enjoyed did not due much due to bad weather day
