Sail Date: Jan 2010

I was concerned about the the party ship reputation that Carnival had and when looking for cruises it was not my first choice but my sailing companion talked me into going, so I said I would be open minded and give it a fair chance. The first wow came when we entered our balcony room. On five previous cruises I had never had a balcony. If I cruise again I would always get a balcony. Gives you so many options and open feeling. The comedy club format was really enjoyable with first rate comedians who also offered PG shows in addition to the later night shows which I attended. Being in our sixties we enjoyed the oldies dance night at the disco, however it was only for one hour and was never offered again. Should consider more of that dancing music without interfering with the late night music. Rest of the entertainment was pretty good. Shows in the main theatre were OK but not outstanding pretty much in line with most ships. Food is always a controversial topic but overall it met expectations. Good variety on the decks. Deck waitstaff were attentive about picking up and cleaning tables. Dining room service was excellent at our sitting with the table captain remembering everyone's name. The menu offered a lot of items but there were not too many wow meals. I can see that the cruise lines have to cut back somewhere and they didn't seem to offer the best cuts of beef. Breakfast dining room menu became old after a few days. Basketball court was really small and not configured evenly. Hard for the good players too move around and play a normal game. Grand Turk port was the best stop. Only ship I have been on that after docking you could walk to beach with free chairs and visit new gift shops in a outdoor mall setting plus have a cool bar with music and pool all within minutes of the ship. Exit process on the ship was extremely efficient. All in all it was much better than expected and I would consider cruising again with Carnival.
