This cruise departed from San Juan and attracted a lot of passengers from Europe and quite a few from Puerto Rico itself. We are veterans of more than 20 cruises on four lines. This was our second on Celebrity, but our Platinum status on RCL gave us equivalent Elite status on Celebrity.

Dining : I'd rate this about B overall. It's amazing to read the previous six or eight reviews and see opinions ranging all over the place. We though the Metropolitan food was "pretty good" overall. The steaks, prime rib, most meat dishes and fish were good. The lamb was terrific. The vegetarian dishes were good too. There are always steak, salmon, and chicken, as well as several good appetizers, soups, and salads, plus the offerings of the day. The "lobster" was a half-tail of rock lobster in "lobster melange" and not good. It would be better to skip lobster entirely than try to palm this poor crustacean off on people. The Waterfall Bistro, the alternative dinner restaurant, was lightly attended. The food was good, and is prepared nearby so it is presented while still hot. There are about six fixed entrees and a nightly special; they have, on this cruise, a Caribbean slant.

The Ocean Cafe presented a slightly more limited and not quite as attractive buffet as one usually finds for lunch. There are hot entrees and salads, and you can have a freshly made sandwich or pannini made to order. The poolside grill offers limited Mexican food and often fish or chicken as well as hamburgers and hot dogs. Pretty tasty, actually. Breakfast at the Ocean Cafe is good; don't miss the eggs benedict station. But the pancakes are usable only as skeet. And the pastries were worse than Hostess... in fact, I'd rather have had a Ding Dong. Strange, since the bread, rolls, and desserts were pretty good. Plenty of chocolate desserts, which are usually in short supply on cruises for some reason. The coffee on this ship is generally good, but varies in strength from normal (Ocean Cafe) to strong (dining room at dinner) to nuclear (morning room service).

Cabin Review

Cabin CC

Good location. Our family group had two adjacent balcony cabins in Concierge Class, and we parked the three kids across the hall in an inside (non-Concierge) room. Deck 9 is right under the wider pool deck, so there is a 25-foot overhang which provides shade and protection from rain. The balconies are small: only 3.5 feet deep, and the room is only 8 feet wide.
