Sail Date: Feb 2009

We have been going on cruises at least every other year sometimes every year depending on the deals we got for the last 12 years. All of our cruises have been with Carnival cruise lines except for the one we took in Feb. 2009. This cruise we used Norwegian. I am writing this review so people think about and check out the cruise line they are thinking about using and what they have to offer. We went on the Norwegian Dawn. We were very happy with the ports of call but not that happy with the ship. The entertainment was great but beyond that everything else was just mediocre at best. After cruising with Carnival we will never cruise on a Norwegian ship again, there is absolutely no comparison. All but two of their restaurants you had to pay to use and the food and service was not worth the price that you paid. It seemed to us that they tried to get every extra dollar out of you they could with everything on board. Many little things were upsetting after cruising with Carnival. There was always food laying on the floors in the hallways. You could only get soft ice cream at meal time and they would not let you do it yourself and then they would only give you like a child's portion. On Carnival you had self serve ice cream 24 hours a day. On carnival they always had some where to get something to eat after hours but not on Norwegian. Norwegian would close off one side of the ship in the buffet area in the evening ofter the buffet which was aggravating because you had to go to the other side of the ship to get from one end to the other. The selection of food at the free buffet was terrible and what they did have was nothing to brag about. They wanted you to pay extra for certain food. No lemonade, no chocolate milk, no fruit punch. Half the time the white milk was empty. All of these thing were readily available with Carnival. We were short a was cloth in our cabin and we had to ask them three times before anyone brought us a second one. We had to pay extra for the little thing that were included in the cruise with Carnival. After cruising on a Carnival ship Norwegian is not an option for us. So if you are planning on a cruise check to see what the cruise line you are looking at really has to offer and how much extra you will have to pay out of pocket once on board the ship. Maybe we just happened to be on the wrong ship on the wrong cruise line at the wrong time but once was enough for us. Choose your cruise line carefully. Happy cruising. By the way our next cruise is to the Mexican Riviera in Feb 2010 and of course with Carnival.
