Severely Spoiled in the Shadows of Darwin's Journey.
Destination: South America
My wife and I had first heard of this Cruise from Friends, as they had taken it 2 years ago, in 2007. After hearing their stories, and upon discovering they liked it so much they were willing to sign on again for a second tour, we decided to join them for a special celebration of my milestone 60th birthday in December of 2009.
This trip truly spoiled us for all future Cruises we will take, and established new benchmarks for ease, access, intimacy, friendliness and adventure. An all-inclusive cruise, from the time we left Seattle, to Quito, Ecuador, on to the Galapagos, and back to Seattle 11 days later, the Celebrity Xpedition Staff performed with near flawless precision to ensure a superb experience.
With only around 90 passengers, the ship was a perfect size, and we especially enjoyed the fact that everything was included in the price - no being nickel and dimed at every turn - all the food, drinks, interim hotels and all transfers, shore excursions, More entertainment, crew tips....everything was covered. This contributed to a completely relaxed atmosphere while aboard the vessel and ashore.
The entire crew of the Xpedition, especially the Naturalist Guides, did a superb job of looking after all the passengers. A standout was the way the Guides and Zodiac Captains, both while ashore or while snorkeling activities were conducted, looked after the safety and well-being of all the participating passengers. As one sign among many of their caring nature, the Naturalists took special care to escort the oldest among the Passengers on all of the shore excursions and did so with patience, sincere attention, and always a steady hand to aid movement over the extremely varied terrain.
The Galapagos Trip presents an opportunity - for those who are inclined to embark on such an adventure - to see one of the truly great wild places on earth. On the Celebrity Xpedition, it is a pleasant mixture of excellent food, superb Ecuadorean Hospitality and Service, extraordinary adventure and unique wildlife encounters, intimate interaction with other passengers and crew, and truly unforgettable experiences - perfectly orchestrated over a 10-Day period.
Having taken a dozen other excellent Cruises in the last 15 years, I cannot recommend any trip more highly. For my wife and I, it was a life changing experience in many positive ways. You simply cannot visit the Galapagos and fly away from the Islands not having been challenged in your belief systems. It is a special place, and for us the Celebrity Xpedition was the way to see it best - thr right combination of adventure, comfort and ease. Less
