Sail Date: Dec 2009

Flew into San Juan on the red eye from San Diego. Arrived around 1pm and quickly was impressed with the San Juan airport. We had no problems getting our luggage and off to get a cab. We ran into another couple who were sailing on the Victory so we shared a cab with them. Total for both was $26. We have previously sailed on Carnival before so knew what to expect. It was comfortable getting on the ship and being somewhat familiar with the layout. That is not to say we didn't get lost trying to figure out which way to turn when we left our stateroom. We had a suite on the Empress deck and was pleased with the location. We love having a balcony to sit and enjoy the view. Unfortunately we had smokers on one side and a family with kids who constantly were in and out of the balcony slamming the door. Our room steward was fabulous. We had given him a tip up front so that he would keep our soft side cooler filled with ice for our wine and spirits. Everything they have said about the duty free shop before boarding the ship is true. We were able to pick up some wine and vodka and put it in our carry-on luggage with no problem. We had the early dining and not sure I would do that again. We always seemed to be rushed to get ready when we returned from our shore trips. I understand they are experimenting with "anytime dining" and I think that would have worked better for us. We missed one of the formal nights as we had decided to take a nap and slept through it. So off to the buffet we went. Our two dining stewards...Richard and Alexander were fabulous and always catered to our needs. They were a delight to visit with every night. We had signed up for the Luggage Express service but found out after obtaining our luggage that our flight had been cancelled. So off to the airport we went. What a mess!!!!! 3000+ folks trying to get home...Don't forget the Ag line...We did and had to get out of line to run our bags thru before checking in..... We ended up having to stay an extra night in San Juan. They have a Visitors and Convention Bureau on the lower level of the airport and they were able to help us get a room for the night. We stayed at the Embassy Suites and it was great. Flight home was uneventful and a nice quiet end to our trip. We would definitely take this same cruise again. In fact had been looking to see if other ships had a similar itinerary but it looks like only Carnival had the 7 island and 7 days trip.
