Background: My husband and I are 28 and 29 years old. This is our fifth cruise, our second on Celebrity making us classic Captain's Club members. Our first Celebrity cruise was for our honeymoon on the Horizon which is no longer part of the Celebrity fleet. We took this cruise to celebrate my husband's 29th birthday, our fifth wedding anniversary, and Chanukah. We booked this cruise through Travelocity as we have booked our other four cruises as they were offering a $100 on board credit. Despite our relatively young ages, our favorite cruise lines have been Holland America and Celebrity as we appreciate a quieter, more relaxed cruise with an elegant but not stuffy atmosphere.

Embarkation: Because of our work schedules, we were not able to fly out to the port the day before. We took the first flight of the day on Delta from Atlanta to San Juan at 8:30am landing promptly at 1:10pm for our 8:30 cruise departure time. This was our first time flying to San Juan for a cruise so we were not familiar with this airport. Our luggage came quickly at the San Juan airport, and grabbing a taxi to the port was very easy. The rate is standard at $19 per trip with $1 per bag. Traffic to the port on the main road was terrible, but all the taxi drivers seem to know the shortcuts so we got there in under 30 minutes without difficulty. Embarkation itself was a breeze. There were 3 lines--standard, concierge class, and captains club. There was no line at either the captains club or concierge class lines and the standard line was very short. Immediately after checking in, we stopped by the duty free shop in the port and picked up a 6 pack of coke for $3 and a bottle of wine for $9 to enjoy in our cabin. Upon entering the ship, we were greeted with champagne/mimosas and directed to deck ten, the lido deck, to enjoy the buffet lunch.

Stateroom: We proceeded to our stateroom soon after lunch and found to our delight that it was ready for our use. We were in a concierge class verandah cabin on deck 8, mid-forward section. Deck 8 is the best deck because the decks above and below are all cabins making it a very quiet deck--no lido deck cleanings or kitchen noise to deal with. Plus the is an overhang over deck 9 that would have overshadowed the verandah a little too much for my liking. The cabin itself was great. It was quite spacious for two people with adequate storage and closet space for one week. Our luggage fit easily under the bed and out of sight. The cabin itself was finished in a wooden veneer and was very tastefully decorated. There was a sofa with a pullout bed and full length mirrors in front of the regular bed. The bathroom was reasonably sized for a ship but with a shower, not a tub. There was lots of storage space in the bathroom and the provided bath products were lemongrass scented and good quality. The verandah was wonderful--two very comfortable chairs with a table large enough to eat a meal. Full length privacy walls blocked views into neighboring cabins. Smoking is not permitted on verandahs which was good for us. Special concierge class touches included: small flower arrangement, bottle of sparkling wine, fruit bowl (though the fruit wasn't the greatest quality), high thread count sheets, a very comfortable pillow top mattress, verandah chair cushions, an upgraded breakfast room service menu which I made use of, and evening canapes which were pretty gross. There was also a pillow menu which we did not use. We only paid an extra $20 per person for concierge class. I would pay that much again but don't think it's worth more than $25-30 per person. Our attendant, Sandy, was very pleasant though we did not request anything more than usual service from him.
