We had not cruised RCCL for ten years, and thought we should give Freedom of the Seas a try. We will just touch on the differences. We have been very happy with Carnival in the past, and loved Celebrity. The first major difference was embarkation. From the time we arrived at Port Canaveral to the time we were having lunch was approximately a half hour, as opposed to probably an hour to two hours with Carnival. Very efficient and organized. Alot of people have complained about the food. RCCL must have taken notice since at every meal, we were repeatedly reminded that if we did not like a dish, we could have it replaced. We had found dinners to be very good. The problem was variety...not very much of it. We had lunch in the Windjammer. The food was good, but not great. There were all sorts of concoctions; if you were Asian you would probably feel right at home. Dishes did not indicate what was in them! So, even though I like parmigiana, I did not now what Parmigiana Mandingo was! I would have liked some good old fashion roast beef at lunch. Jade was a big disappointment. Instead of more north American Asian dishes, there were all sorts of weird concoctions. Carnival's variety at lunch and food quality was far superior. In summary, Carnival definitely surpasses RCCL in the food category. RCCL was good; Carnival was VERY good! We had an inside cabin on the 9th floor near the back of the ship. There were four of us, but it did not seem crowded. It was well laid out and very comfortable. The enclosed shower was a real plus, so no wet floors! The only downside was storage...not enough for four. Drawers were small as well. A small sitting area was a plus. For two, it would have been perfect! Service on Freedom was exemplary. Everyone helped you cheerfully. It was truly perfect. Carnival was close, but RCCL certainly was perfect! RCCL also exceeded Carnival in the entertainment department. Shows were incredible, and really could not be matched. As far as Freedom of the Seas was concerned, it was very well laid out and you did not feel like there were 4000 people on board. This was the first cruise I did not watch any TV. Lots to do! If you have a family, this is really the only ship to go on!
