My husband & I have cruised over 30 times with many different companies but had never taken an NCL cruise. We decided to give NCL "freestyle" a try. The ship and cabin were very nice. Freestyle dining was not free in most cases. Most of the restaurants had a surcharge of $10-$25 per person. We decided to have breakfast & lunch in the Garden Cafe and eat dinner in the 2 free main dining rooms. Service in both dining rooms was very slow. The food was fair to poor. I ordered a margarita the first night and it was the absolute worst margarita I have ever had in my life. I told the waiter it was terrible, he took it back, supposedly added more tequila and gave it back to me. It was still bad. I would not order a drink on this ship unless it would be beer or wine since they can't mess beer and wine up. (I never ordered another drink from any bar.) The second night, it took an hour to get our main entree and my husband could not cut his pork chop with a steak knife. He had to stop someone to get a cup of coffee. I was never asked or offered coffee, tea, a drink anything. I ordered a fish entree both nights and both nights it came served over noodles. No variety here. Our cabin was not serviced the second night - he came by @ 9:45 & I said to forget it. TV channels very poor. The University of Florida Football team ranked at that time # 1 in the nation and the game was being televised on CBS at 3:30. Could we see the game? No, not available. I asked. I asked where there was a sports bar hoping to watch the game. Sorry no sports bar either. We wanted to try NCL out since the Epic will begin sailing beginning this summer. I don't think we will, if you have to pay extra money to get service and a decent meal.
