Western Carribean in the Bright Sunshine

Sail Date: December 2009
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

We left home for JFK at 6am and made it to the airport in 20 minutes, a new record on the Belt Parkway. The flight down to Miami was a bumpy one all the way down but anything to get us to the ship. Once we got down to Miami, we made our way down to the ship. Was a little slow going through the boarding process but once we stepped foot inside all was well. Stopped in the cabin on the Verandah, then up one flight to the Lido deck for a snack. A light rain was falling but when we were ready to set sail the sun broke through and let the dancing begin. They did away with the usual life jacket drill, so much nicer not carrying it around with you. The kids were ready to swim so we went back up to the Lido for Sail Away. Nothing better than to start with a Drink of the Day and Cha Cha Slide.

Cruise Director Butch was very funny and his staff worked well with the guests. Our dining staff in the Silver Olympian, Trika and Zoran were very accommodating with the kids. This vacation came More at a perfect time for all of us and the weather was perfect. The ship is fantastic. Interior was immaculate and staff were very friendly. Only thing is you get cut off by the placement of the Golden Olympian Dining Room on Deck 4. Camp Carnival for my 9 year old was excellent. We couldn't get her to eat dinner with us most nights and with my 12 year old, Circle C was the perfect place for him to relax and make new friends.

Sea Days were enjoyable with all the activities on the ship. From the Mini Golf to the game room there wasn't a dull moment for anyone of us. Once it was over getting off the ship was a breeze, fastest I've encountered so far. My kids miss their friends and we look forward to our next Carnival adventure. Less

Port and Shore Excursions

I had been to Cozumel before on a previous cruise. This time we booked an all inclusive excursion through an internet company for Nachi Cocum. All you can drink and a 3 course meal. I read all the previous reviews and they were all positive. We hopped in a taxi and 15 minutes later were in PARADISE!! They limit the number of people to 100 but there were no more than 20 on the beach all day, our group, a group of hard partying ladies, lol, and another couple. The weather was perfect. The kids stayed most of the day in the pool and we relaxed on the beach. The hammocks were calling us later in the day and a nice massage could be had as well. The food that was served was amazing. All prepared fresh and everything we had was delicious. I highly recommend this spot and will make sure to go back next time in Cozumel. After we left there we did the usual shopping near the port and picked up some items to bring back to NY with us.

Tendering into Grand Cayman was an easy process. We booked the Pirate Ship Adventure through Carnival. We met our guide at the port and she walked us to the Jolly Roger. There were 40 of us on the ship along with the crew. The ship set sail and we headed out toward the Liberty. The Captain shouted out to one of his men then a blast of the cannon echoed off the hull of the Liberty. We scared a few people on another tender waiting to go to shore. Then we dropped anchor in a quiet area. Everyone put on their life jackets and then they lowered the plank and one by one the kids and the parents all jumped into the Blue Caribbean. Some of the kids, including my son, jumped off the back of the ship and into 15 feet of water. The fish were swimming around our feet and it was truly an amazing experience. Then again some shopping before heading back to the Liberty.
