Holland America Line ** Oosterdam ** Panama Canal Cruise ** 02 - 21 Nov 2009
What was right? The transfer from Miami airport to the Marriott North, Ft Lauderdale was efficient and without too much delay. The hotel itself was of a far higher standard than expected. The transfer and cruise check-in ran smoothly, especially given the volume of passengers.
The cabin (stateroom) could not be faulted. We had the SS grade on Deck 8: a large verandah with table, chairs, 2 deep wicker chairs and foot stools; the bathroom had a full size whirlpool bath, separate shower and 2 wash basins; the main room was spacious with generous wardrobe space, king-size bed with 3 pillows for each person (very comfortable), 2 armchairs, settee, fridge, flat-screen TV, dressing-table and desk, bathrobes were also provided. The 2 cabin stewards worked efficiently, discreetly and quickly. Everything was very clean.
This cabin was a good choice for us - by luck, as it was the only available cabin in SS grade when we booked. Plenty of space in closets and drawers for clothes;very comfortable bed (smaller suitcases fit under the bed) - but TV not in the best position if you want to watch TV in bed; great bathroom with whirlpool bath and separate shower - very spacious; huge balcony with good quality furnishings; air con a bit too severe for us so turned it down most of the time; good position on the ship - close to elevators, good view of everything - just a bit noisy at ports where lifeboats are used as tenders.
