We decided to make a change this year, instead of going to Vegas for our annual girls trip this year we went cruising. What a great choice it turned out to be too!
We drove from Portland, OR to the Port of Seattle. I really did not realized I would have to drive through downtown Seattle to get to the port....but hey we made it. I prepaid for parking so that was easy.
We had a bit of a difficult time finding which door to go into but again we made it. Check in was easy despite having 4 different accounts in our room. We stayed in an ocean view cabin on the 4th floor. We had bunks the air blowing in my face all night did not make it to easy to sleep. The air was my only room complaint. There was plenty of storage space for the 4 of us girls.
Started the cruise by pouring sparkling wine for all of us to to toast to another girls trip. Took sometime to check out the ship because it was the first time for all of us on a cruise ship. We went out on deck to enjoy the sun and watch the ship set sail. Of course we were constantly asked if we wanted a cocktail but did not mind. I do have to say when they do make drinks I don't even think they put 1 shot into the drink but they still charge you $7.50 for a screwdriver.
Dinner was good, no complaints. The buffet was where we ate during breakfast and lunch each day. There was a lot of variety and all of us were happy with our waitstaff. I do have to say on our first night at dinner we asked the lady next to us to take our picture and she wanted us to pay her to take it and was very rude. All she had to say was no! We can laugh about it though and hope we are not as grumpy as we get older.
The comedian on the boat was funny and the dancing show was great. The casino was fun but no luck this time! I did have fun learning to play Caribbean Poker in the casino.
In Nanaimo we all went on a wine tour. Everyone was wonderful and we ended up with a perfect day to go wine tasting. All of our favorite was the cider farm. The cider farm was so inviting they had everything organized for us.
The tour ended with a nanaimo bar, YUM! If you haven't had one try one if you ever make it to Nanaimo.
We went dancing on the last night. 70's Disco night, it was so much fun. I only stayed until midnight because I am had to drive back to Portland the next morning but the rest of the girls were bustin a move until it closed.
Departing wasn't bad but the line to get off the ship was long. We were in the last group but it was not to bad. The parking garage had car lines every which way. The lady honking her horn at the end for some reason was thinking that it would make the line move faster. Hmmm we just had 1,900 people get off the ship across the street she really should rethink being in a hurry.
All of us had a positive attitude about everything! As far as we were concerned, we were on vacation and it was nothing but good times. We are thinking about the Bahamas in 2011 for our girls trip.
I have discovered on the cruise critic boards there are always people that leave there kids unsupervised, the Mercury was not the exception. There was a crowd of teenagers that were bumping into other cruisers, throwing ice, and just being loud and obnoxious. One of my cruise roommates could not help but asking them to stop. They ended up leaving.
