Best cruise so far after 16 cruises!

Sail Date: October 2009
Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean
Embarkation: Rome (Civitavecchia)

We loved this new ship. This was our 16th cruise so we have become somewhat "opinionated" about what makes for a good cruise. We had exceptional service and food for the entire 13 nights. We boarded the ship around noon after planning our own transportation with another couple from Rome (130euro total) Embarkation was quick and soon eating at the lovely buffet that we enjoyed throughout the cruise.

Our balcony stateroom was very nice. Great bed/pillows and balcony seemed ample. Bathroom was also larger with glass shower doors. I missed a makeup (magnifier mirror) at desk. Not a lot of drawers but there was storage above the bed. It was a little difficult to reach, but worked.

The food was pretty good in dining room - not always the best. However, we always left full so can't complain. Enjoyed Oceanview Cafe on deck 14 - had great selection and accommodated all the people. Never had problems waiting for food or a table. The pasta and omelette More stations were wonderful. The room service had more options for breakfast - including hot breakfast - not just the continental options. Enjoyed room service on mornings when leaving early for ship excursions.

Attended some of the night shows but pretty tired after port days so didn't make it to all of the shows. Especially enjoyed Fox News on the t.v. and all the choices for free movies in our cabin. Our cabin was so nice we stayed there more than previous cruises. That was nice after a long day in port! The staff was friendly and service was fabulous.

We did not use any ship excursions but booked our own with advice from cruise critic. Many of the ports we had already visited. Had great private tours at lower prices and flexible with our requests. Takes a little research, but worth the savings! We rented a car at the port when we disembarked and headed for the Amalfi coast for 4 days enjoying more good food... Less

Cabin review: Celebrity Equinox 7314

Cabin 7314 was an aft balcony cabin. We were not too far from elevators and easy to get to all food stations at the aft. There was ample room with all amenities other than the magnifier make up mirror that I enjoy on some ships. The balcony was a little larger and bathroom great size with nice glass shower doors. Would have liked a hand held shower too, but survived without. Nice large flat screen t.v. and many options for news (FOX) and movies. Best cabin we have had with a few amenities missing. The closet was good size but should have been a few inches wider as some hangers hung out. Room was very quiet and never heard any one unless we had balcony door open.

We booked Ramses Tour for a day trip to Cairo that was about 14 hours. It was a long day but we did not want to spend the night in Cairo. We had a group of 4 adults and spent $110. per person. We had them take us to Giza, Memphis, Sakkara and Khan el Khalili Bazaar. We stopped at Hard Rock Cafe for lunch (we paid for that). We had a little problem on where to go shopping since we wanted to go to the Bazaar. They were going to take us to their places, but we had them take us where we originally requested. We spent a little time extra driving due to the misunderstanding. The Bazaar was very interesting at night and great for photos. We felt safe there however an armed man followed us around. We paid him even though he wasn't part of our tour. (I guess they like to make sure tourists are safe in this area) I don't think any of the cruise tours stop here.

Ramses Tour made sure we were happy and George called on the phone at the end of the day to make sure we were satisfied. We have no complaints and felt we received all we requested. We would use them again if travelling to Egypt. A large vehicle would probably be better and safer, but would need a bigger group to get one.

We got off this ship in Ashdod and had a private tour. We spent the night off the ship in Jerusalem after clearing it with the ship. We were able to see a little more and experience the night in Jerusalem. We had a friend that lives in Israel take us around so did not use a travel guide. We stayed at the Harmony Hotel at about $200. It was in a great location, but hotel was just so so. We saw so much in 2 days and it was worth the night over in Jerusalem. We returned to ship in Haifa before sailing.

We organized a tour with Ekol Travel who picked us up at the port on time and took us to Sirince and other turkish towns. We had a nice van and our guide spoke good English. We had already visited Ephesus but probably should have return there as the other towns are not much to see. We had a nice leisure day and the tour was all we requested at a price of $55. per person. We had our own lunch and toured Kusadasi on our own when we returned from tour.
