Port Canaveral, Florida is a great Port to depart from...RCCL Monarch only ship in Port on Monday's and Friday's. Parking construction still going on but overall easy to navigate.
Check-in quick and smooth at 2pm and carried our bags on with us. Elevators are always a problem on all ships as they block one or two elevators to transport the many bags. We were on Deck 6 and decided to just carry our bags up the stairway to our cabin.
Cabin was in good location...quiet...no noise from cabins across or next to...we booked an inside cabin as we felt we didn't need an outside or balcony for a few days. Neither of us has claustrophobia thank goodness. Cabins are VERY small on this ship. I could not imagine 4 people in the cabin we were in (which did have the drop-down beds). When they started adding the towel animals hanging from the ceiling is when my wife wanted to scream there's no more room in here...please!!!
My wife and I have not sailed on RCCL in awhile but have sailed approximately 6 times with them in the past (total of 20 cruises on various lines). I have not had a negative experience with this line other than the food was just mediocre at best. What a pleasant surprise to find the food in the dining room was excellent but not the filet mignon. I ordered the filet mignon one night (upcharge of $14.95). It was huge but unfortunately did not meet my expectations. It was ordered medium but delivered almost too well done. I would say to order it medium rare and hope it at least comes out pink.
We chose the My Time Dining and that worked our perfectly for us as we don't like to eat too late but neither too early and we were able to choose our dining time and request a quiet location. I understand you must have prepaid your gratuities in order to use this feature which I found to be great.
CocoCay (their private island) was fun and relaxing. You can always find a shady spot to just lay back and relax or enjoy many of the water sport options available. We chose the floating mats ($10 for all day) and just enjoyed the water and great weather.
Nassau is always fun...shopping and a not to be missed trip to the Atlantis.
I understand the ship is about 20 years old and it is generally in good condition. It never felt crowded and there was always a chair in the shade away from the pool where you can just relax.
Entertainment was on par....cruise ship type reviews, comics, etc. There were a few things on the daily schedule that never happened but you just move on to something else.
All in all, this is a wonderful, quick get-away and I would definitely do it again.
