Sail Date: Oct 2009

We booked a cruise for the October 5, 2009 sailing to the eastern Carribean on Carnival Destiny. If this would have been our first cruise, it sure would have been the last! To begin with, when we first boarded the ship and got to our room, it was HOT. After we dropped our luggage off and making sure the air was on full blast, we left the room knowing from past experiences that the rooms are always hot when we first arrive on the ship, and after the ship begins to sail, the room gets cooler. Well... After the sailaway party, and the lifeboat drill, we went back to our room and it was SCORCHING! I called maintenance and basically when he arrived with his thermostat, he just kept saying "Better? Better?". My husband was very upset because of how hot it was in the room, and finally I told the man yes it was better, and just hoped he actually fixed it. FYI-We did not have air conditioning until after we arrived back from our dinner around 10:00 PM b/c we had the late dining seating at 8:15 PM.

After we had been pouring sweat from the heat, we were trying to get ourselves together for the 1st night of dinner service and decided to take a shower. I took a shower first, which was extremely cold but felt good seeing that we did not have any air conditioning, but was hoping that the hot water would kick on soon enough to have at least a luke warm shower for my husband, as he is really weird about taking a warm shower. FYI- He also took a cold shower, maintenance was called, and they let us know that our hot water heater was not on, and that was the reason that we did not have hot water.

Meanwhile, when I was taking an extremely cold shower, I looked down in the shower and noticed that I was standing in mold. Yes I said it, MOLD. I called back to maintenance after first calling about the air, and they had housekeeping come clean the room again. When we came back to the room after dinner, the tiles looked a lot cleaner but there was still mold in the grout of the tiles. When I contacted Guest Services about these issues we were having, they informed me that the tiles would need to be re-grouted. FYI- The re-grouting took place on the 4th day of our 5 day cruise while we were at port, so this really showed me how much they cared about what I thought of this ship, especially being a 3rd time past guest.

All of these problems, and at the end of the cruise, what I thought was funny was we did not receive a comment card. I know that the Room Steward is responsible for giving those out, and he seemed very upset with us at the beginning of all these problems that we did not contact him first. He actually made a comment about not talking to him first, and for the remainder of the cruise, he was very short and not very nice to us.

I have never experienced this on a Carnival cruise, and am very "iffy" on booking another.
