great vacation!

Sail Date: September 2009
Destination: Mexican Riviera
Embarkation: Los Angeles

hello everybody!!! this was my 3rd cruise, second with carnival and second to the mexican riviera. my husband and i are both 22 and love sailing and are completley addicted. we have no kids and this was our frist cruise with a balcony!!! we were soooo excited. i booked this cruise in november of 08' so it was a very long time coming!

PRE CRUISE: we decided to fly in a day before the cruise and would suggest everyone do this as a precautionary measure, plus you can start vacation that much sooner!! after a lot of hard research we decided to fly into lax and stay in long beach. i researched every hotel in long beach it seemed until finally i found one that had everything i wanted at the right price. the Hilton Long beach was the winner. they had a special carnival rate that they dont offer online. we arrived at the hotel at around 1pm and were weary if they would be able to accomidate us so early. They got us right in and in a beautiful room. i have never ever ever ever stayed More in a hotel with such excellent customer service. i have not one bad word to sya against this hilton!!

EMBARKATION: we arrived at about 930am to check in and recieved boarding zone 1. extremely fast and smooth check in. we then sat around until about 12 when they were ready to start boarding. pretty easy and effortless. i was anxious to see what the buzz was on all the pink. to be honest i didnt even notice all the pink at all. what i did find an issue with though, was all of the circles and small dots EVERYWHERE you turned. it got a bit overwhelming especially the first day when you didnt know where you where going. kind of felt like a fun house.

SHIP: this was not the prettiest ship i have ever seen. it was very big and had a lot of people on it. for us personally, we didnt see a lot of activities that really interested us so i cant really comment on that. however there was always a lack of chairs by all of the pools. it seemed very over crowded on the lido deck the majority of the time, which for me is a turn off. the adult only pool always seemed to be filled to capacity anytime we wanted to go for a dip so we were never able to swim. i dont like a pool where there is standing room only. not to mention we caught a man blowing his nose in there....eww! navagating around the ship is a bit tricky as a lot of decks dont go from one end to the other and u had to go up to get back down if that makes sense? lol

ROOM: after several upgrades we got an 8B category balcony room. we were in room 6288. our first balcony and we lovvvvvved. we did have some unruley neighbors and without them our stay would have been a lot more enjoyable. our room steward was a funny little man. on my past cruises i have never even met my room steward because i NEVER saw them, not once. however, almost every day, morning and night, we would get back to our room after being gone for an hour or two, sometimes more, and run into him cleaning our room. kind of boggled my mind and for that reason i think he was either new or not on top of things. however personality wise he was great! also we never could figure out what our towl animals were supposed to be which always made us laugh!!!

FOOD: not the best or worst ive had. a lot of the buffet itemes were not what i normally eat so i was kind of picky. we only went to the dining room once as our waiter and table location were both duds, but we didnt mind. and i have to say....the warm chocolate melting cake was not so great. i mean it wasnt even really cake, more like choclate soup with a crust. to rich for me! lol

PORTS: in PV we did not have anything planned so we took a yellow taxi to the malecon(shopping) for 6 dollars for 2 people. we stayed out for about 4 or 5 hours and had a very nice time. we ate lunch at bubba gumps....ooooohhhhh my it was the best shrimp ive ever eaten!! In Mazatlan we had booked an independent excursion with randis happy horses. it was such an awesome experince and i would reccommend it to anyone!! randi is a hoot and my horse chokey was a funny one!!! in cabo we got off early and decided to do our own thing. we went to a nice vendor and took a private glass bottom boat tour. we negotiated to 15 dollars for two of us for a 45 minute tour. i would also reccomend everyone do this. it was so cool to see the fish allllll around you.

ENTERTAINMENT: we went to almost all the shows on board. the female dancer were really great and in shape unlike some others we have seen lol. the male dancers....eeeeeekk. they could use a little help but it was funny to watch them, so either way we had a good time. both singers were really great but it always sounded like they were screaming and i dont know if it was them or the microphones? but the absoloute best singers i heard throughout the whole cruise were the 2 lobby singers. there voices were phenominal!! i got goosebumps everytime they started. i never caught their names but they were fabulous!

SUMMARY: all in all my husband and i really enjoyed our vacation. and no matter what the circumstances or decor....we will never have a bad cruise. could some things have been better? yes. but could things have been a lot worse? yes. a cruise is what you want it to be and each one is so unique from the next. we have taken a lot of memories from this vacation and hope to be able to cruise carnival again!
