We flew to Tampa from Denver the day before our 9/20 cruise and stayed at the LaQuinta Airport motel. It was clean and comfortable and a great bargain, considering the price we paid. Airport transportation was free as was a continental breakfast.

Sunday - Embarkation day The motel offers transportation to the cruise ship terminal for $10 each but we decided to take a taxi for about the same price because we wanted to leave earlier than the motel's shuttle. We got to the terminal at 10:15 and a porter took our luggage and directed us to a short line of people. A couple minutes later, the doors opened and we were let inside. We checked in, got our ship cards, and were given boarding number 1. Our carry-on luggage was x-rayed and our bottled water was confiscated. The more we protested, the more agitated the agent became so we gave up. At least we had all our wine and booze in our checked luggage. At about 11:00, a large group of travel agents were boarded and we got on board at 11:30.

We walked onto deck 2, looked around the lobby area and atrium, and both commented on how gaudy the place looked. Everything was decorated with urns. However, the dEcor grew on us and by the end of the cruise, I thought the place was beautiful. Most everyone was standing in front of the elevators so we walked up to deck 9. All stairways were decorated with art work between floors and had glass urns and other things on display on each side of the stairway. It was interesting to take different stair ways just to see the different displays. We were the first people at the buffet but by noon, the place was packed. We had salad, grouper, and soup. The grouper was so good that I went back for seconds. We were very impressed with most of the food selections on the Lido deck. Cocktail servers were walking around everywhere handing fancy drinks to people and welcoming them to Carnival. Thinking the drinks were free, many passengers would take a drink, only to be asked for their cards so they could be charged. We didn't see any drink pushing after this.
