We have cruised to Bermuda before (previously on a Celebrity cruise) and loved that trip so much we decided to take another cruise to Bermuda. This time, we decided to try Norwegian because we had heard good things about it. Our ship, the Breakaway, was huge. Too huge. It was the largest ship we've ever been on with nearly 4,000 people. Unfortunately, it wasn't the cruise experience we had wanted, nor expected. It was extremely crowded and noisy in most of the common areas - especially around like the pool, the atrium, and garden cafe. I was surprised that, despite the size of the ship, there was only one main pool with only four hot-tubs around it for adults and there wasn't a second pool besides the kiddie pool. The hot tubs indicated they were only for adults around the main pool, but children were in them constantly. There was a sun deck with two more hot tubs on the 16th floor that was only for adults during certain hours, but no pool. The other major disappointment was the food in the Garden Cafe. The quality and variety of food was poor, there were constant lines, too many people, and the beverages like iced tea and fruit juices were watery and flavorless. The main dining rooms that were included with the cruise (including Savor, Taste, Manhattan Room, etc.) had much better food and the service was excellent, so by the second day, we gave up on going to the Garden Cafe all together. There were also a few specialty dining options that looked interesting, but unfortunately, some like Le Bistro, were completely booked up the entire cruise before we even departed. Another, Ocean Blue, was the only place where it looked like you could get seafood and, although it was listed as a specialty dining, you still had to pay an additional cost even if you had the specialty dining package.

We really loved our days in Bermuda again and we want to go back. Getting there on a huge Norwegian ship packed to the rim with people wasn't a pleasant experience.

There were three things that were really good about our cruise: the embarkation and disembarkation went well; the staff was excellent - they were very personable and helpful and should be paid a lot more than I imagine they are getting; and the entertainment was excellent (especially Howl at the Moon, the Fat Cats Jazz and Blues, and the Dancing show).

Cabin Review

Inside Stateroom

Cabin IC

The cabin was smaller than the other two inside cabins that my family members were in and it was directly below what sounded like one of the event spaces because you could hear the thumping and sound of loud music until about 11pm each night. Also, the toilet never worked well. We had to ask our room assistant to request maintenance every day and it wasn't due to anything we had done or put in it. It just never flushed well or at all (disgusting.)

The nice things about the room was that the bed was comfortable, it was kept very clean by our room steward (who was so nice), and the TV worked.
