This was our first transpacific crossing and our second visit to Japan.

We flew in business class from DFW non-stop on JAL to Narita airport using AA miles. We spent about thirteen and a half hours in the air from take- off to landing. We stayed the first night at the Narita Hilton and it was a great choice. We took the free shuttle to hotel and then back to the airport the next morning. We got Yen from the Seven Bank (7-11) international ATM at the airport. It was a free standing machine ATM in the arrivals hall; it was not in an actual 7-11 store as we had expected.

The airport limo (bus) service into Tokyo worked great. This was our first blush with how organized things were in Japan. The bus took about 90 minutes and dropped us right at the Tokyo Hilton in Shinjuku. There was a convenient free shuttle from the Hilton to the Shinjuku Station area which had several department stores and places to eat. We had 5 nights total in the Tokyo area and did our touring independently using public transportation. It was “Golden Week” (holiday) in Japan and a lot of people were off work making some tourist sites very crowded. I have never ever seen as many people in one area as we encountered at the Sensoji Temple in Asakusa. We had fun in Tokyo and saw many amazing things there but this is Cruise Critic so…..on to embarkation day.

Cabin Review

Ocean View 4

Cabin 04

Our cabin was 8003 which was an extended ocean view with the area that would have been a balcony area inside the cabin. We estimated that it was 220-230 square foot instead of the usual 170 square foot. There was a leather sofa and a large leather chair. There was a large round window with a view of the ocean sitting on the sofa or at the desk.. It was near the front of the ship right next to crew cabins near the bridge. We did not have any noise from the forward crew area but our neighbors in the next cabin aft were very noisy. We liked this spacious cabin and our service was good. There is a cloth shower curtain in the standard size bathroom. The hair dryer was a movable plug in type that had to be used at the desk. There was plenty of drawer space. There is not a good room darkening curtain and light came in around the curtain on the large window but we built a barrier in the window shelf with seat cushions and pillows that worked to make the room dark. There was plenty of room and a small table high enough for room service dining. We did not miss having a balcony on this cruise because it was cold and windy out during the crossing.
