This was our 12th sailing on HAL, the second on the Prinsendam. We choose HAL because their ships tend to be smaller - the Prinsendam is the smallest in the fleet. The fleet is immaculately well maintained, always clean as a whistle, with a crew that always smile and greets every guest they encounter. Perhaps they all go to "smile school" but who cares, on HAL it is the way of life.
When we checked in we'd been booked to suite 04 but were told our stateroom had been changed. We were a bit taken aback for about two seconds - then the lady started to laugh and told us we would be in 08, the Pinnacle Suite! Wow, we'd been given an upgrade. See comments below about the suite.
Remembering that the Prinsendam is small (a bit more than 700 passengers), some things are reduced in size. But everything about the cruise was terrific: crew and staff, our stateroom of course, service, food, ports of call, and even most of the weather.
The Prinsendam Pinnacle Suite has floor-to-ceiling glass windows with two doors that open to a triple private verandah, private bedroom with king-sized bed, and private master bathroom with a large shower stall full of jets, and a full-size whirlpool tub. There's a walk-in closet/dressing room larger than our two at home put together. There's also a living room with sofa bed, dining room, fully equipped bar (with sink, microwave, Ventura coffee maker, huge assortment of dishes, glassware and more), a guest bathroom and tons of storage everywhere - oh, two TVs, a BOSE CD/DVD player, and a BOSE Bluetooth speaker as well. 95% of the people in the world live in space smaller than that suite. Fantastic - and, yes, decadent (
