We chose this cruise because we wanted to go out of Port Canaveral which is closer to our home. The first thing that seemed strange was the lack of security at the port compared to Ft. Lauderdale. The ship is definitely showing it's age and needs to go to dry dock. The drawers in the room were falling apart. The shower had cold and then scalding water. We had the plumber come three times and gave up. The food was definitely not as good as it has been. The selections in the coffee shop are terrible. The service was excellent. We were compensated for the problems with the shower. The staff was definitely working to do a great job. They are seriously cutting corners. Some understandable like the charge for room service. Our favorite bar cookies that were in the spa area and sometimes in the coffee shop were gone. The food in the diamond lounge was pretty bad. Many of the new foods were just awful and I have always felt the food was satisfactory. I could always depend on the daily salmon selection, but I tried it twice and it was dried out and quite terrible. I'm afraid they might be going too far in cutting corners. Might have to change their name from "Royal" to "Mediocre". The casino is really tight as well. It used to be more fun. At least they let you win a bit so you could give it back. I always recommended RC but I think I might have to stop.

Ocean View Stateroom

Cabin G

The drawers were falling apart. The water was cold and we had the plumber come three days in a row. It then became scalding, no more cold at all. The water in the shower just did not regulate properly. It might start out scalding, go warm and then scalding once again. I feel this isn't a new issue but it just isn't being fixed properly. All in all, the cabin was showing it's age.

Port Reviews

St. Maarten

This port is definitely being neglected. There was trash all over the place. There seemed to be no sense of pride in their port.

San Juan

A nice place to explore on your own. Main problem was the wild cats that were everywhere.

Labadee

A nice place to spend the day.
