We chose this cruise as an option as one of our friends had not cruised before, hoping for a success for future holidays together. The ships availability met our needs as three of the four of us can only holiday during school holidays. We also liked the idea of an adult only cruise. We obtained an upgrade for both couples, our cabin was 7051, a large window, plenty of wardrobe space and tea making facilities. The cabin was ideal for our needs, worth noting we had the biggest shower we have ever had on board a ship (4 previous cruises). We drove down to Newport, parking cost £55 which included a coach transfer to Tilbury (4 hours). We were dropped off at Tilbury with passengers from four other coaches, and made our way into the reception after leaving our bags for the porters to move our luggage on board. The reception area had adequate seating and as white luggage label holders we were directed to the photo card/credit card area, second after gold luggage holders. The ship looked clean and there were plenty of staff/crew available to show us to our cabin. The ship sailed on time, after a slightly chaotic lifeboat drill, during which we realised how old the other passengers were, including a number of disabled who were struggling to stand up for the drill, there cannot be many ships that ensure all passengers are directed to their own lifeboat. Our first meal was in the Warldorf at a table for four, we were on first sitting, my wife is a 'funny eater' and all of her needs were met with a smile and understanding. The food was excellent during every evening meal, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. After our meal 5 (courses) we wandered around the ship, finding our way around, ending up in the stage area for the show, the first night was Abba songs, the dancers were good and the musicians adequate but the five singers (2 male and 3 female) sang in the main without a smile. The shows during the week lasted around about thirty minutes. The Magellan show team singers were amateur in there presentation and on the last night when singing a tribute to Queen, they killed queen, (not killer queen) the entertainment manager has a good voice but for some reason wore his jumper wrapped and tied round his waist, the ladies were poor in the main. We drank in the captains lounge where the staff were very attentive, the lounge games were presented by the entertainment team again with little enthusiasm. Our first port of call was Antwerp, a short walk from the mooring, typical Dutch city with a good mixture of old buildings, shops and cafe's. Back on board for the evening meal and an overnight sailing up towards a very long sail along the river Seine. We don't know how often shipping uses the Seine but it was amusing to see everyone ashore waving and taking photographs. We arrived at Rouen at around 2000, we went ashore on the coaches provided, then walked around a town that in reality was shut. So back on board for a four hour cruise back along the Seine heading for Le Harve. The day in Le Harve was spent looking around the town and shopping areas. Back on board for the overnight sail back to Newport arriving not long after midnight, up early for breakfast before disembarking, minibus to the car park, then away. We definitely as a group drank too much, our drinks package was £17 pp, which was not excessive as we achieved that every day. A good ship, but small compared to others we had sailed on, possibly ideal for short cruises but how we would spend our time on a longer cruise we could not imagine.
