We had gone on a Viking Seine River cruise which was a disaster. The Viking reputation was so good we wanted to give them a second chance. We have been on nine cruises previously including Galapagos, Yangtze, Amazon, Nile etc. This cruise was really mediocre as far as the food, places visited and expectations not met.
The ship was beautiful. We had a lower cabin which was really well laid out and the service was fantastic. Although we had paid gratuities up front we gave extra to our cabin attendant. The TV selection was wanting. We only needed it after dinner but there was not much to watch. They could easily have a satellite dish with multiple selections. We have a dish on our own boat which gets all DISH offerings. The bed was fantastic. So restful.
The food was really mediocre. It was beautifully presented but some dishes had no taste and some meals were really bad. The first night we had the chef's recommended brisket and it was worse than my mothers and hers was terrible. Trout one night was over cooked. There were two excellent meals-rack of lamb and coq au vin. The portions were small but we didn't want more. I lost 3 pounds and my wife lost 2. How many people lose weight on a cruise? Not many.
The cabin was well laid out with room to stow all your clothing and gear. Good closet and drawer space. Nice desk and very nice bathroom with excellent shower. The window was at the waterline but we did not spend much time other than sleeping time in the cabin. The decor especially the wood was very pleasing. In fact the cabin was one of the best parts of the journey. It was very relaxing and the attendant was most efficient. The TV was wanting as noted above.
