On May 29, we embarked on our cruise to Key West, Havana and Cozumel. The ship Empress of the Seas is about half the size of the Oasis but that turned out to be good. The ship is in great shape and has everything that we wanted. The stateroom 8524 was very comfortable and clean. The main dining room was very attractive, the menu was quite good and the service was excellent. We attended the theater every evening and the entertainment was very good. In short, the ship and the crew were excellent. Our first day in Key West was a lot of fun and interesting. Our second day was in Havana and the following are my views.
When deciding what to do in Havana, here are my recommendations/comments for your consideration:
Don't waste time on a bus tour. All we did for 3-hours was drive back and forth on the same main street along the waterfront and look at the same old buildings in disrepair.....boring. The stops we make were on very little interest and were not worth the time or money. The bus guide spoke poor English and the sound system was so poor that from the second row of seats to the back, you could not hear or understand what was being said.
Our stateroom was on the 8'th floor and was very nice, comfortable, and quiet. The room was smaller than on the Oasis but was more than adequate for our needs. The large window provided with plenty of daylight. The king size bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was quite small and the shower may be a little challenging for a large person.....for us it was ok. The cabin was kept very tidy by the staff.
First time in Key West. Not very impressed. Just full of restaurants, bars and small shops.
Been to Cozumel before and nothing new to see. Next time in Cozumel, we'll stay on the ship.
