NCL Epic was sailing to the ports we wanted to visit, on the schedule we wanted, at a cost we were happy with. We are previous NCL cruisers. The first thing we encountered was a very swift registration process at the dock in Civitavecchia. It was one of the best experiences we have ever had. The downside was, the walk from the registration area to the ship was a long way (I have mobility issues). To be fair though, they are building a brand new, permanent, facility that will solve this situation. Check in staff were great.

We like to board as soon as we can so we can have ample opportunity to explore our new home away from home. And did we need it. The Epic is a very large vessel with 19 decks. For this cruise, we chose a aft balcony cabin (11317) and I think we will always try to do so on future cruises. The view was great, very mild wind while at sea. Yes there was some extra noise from the water but we did not find it objectionable at all. Our cabin steward was OK - but not great. While there was a special offer of laundry services, we could not get the required bag. Nor did he ever give us a door hanger for breakfast delivery. Minor issues.

The Epic staterooms are of a different design than most are normally encountered. The sink in the cabin area did bother some of our fellow travelers. The ... wavy design of the cabin is unusual. But, the amount of storage available was more than adequate.
