Sail Date: Apr 2017

We enjoyed our cruise on NCL Breakaway to Bermuda although there were a few hiccups. We arrived at Pier 88 in NYC on a Sunday pretty early in the morning. We didn't realize at first how early we were because the Coast Guard had called for an annual inspection of the ship, just once a year so we were unlucky I guess. We were able to drop off our bags and then get checked in but we had more than a 2 hour wait before we could board the ship. At least we had seats while hundreds were standing. Once we had boarded there was another delay before we could sail due to a passenger becoming very ill requiring medical personnel. Very sorry for that person and their family.

Sail Away party was pretty cool, we passed the statue of liberty and One World Trade before going under the Verrazano Narrows Bridge. Many people were dancing and the drinks were flowing. We were given the Ultimate Beverage Package and that perk saved us a lot of money. We made our way up to the cabin but it had not been cleaned yet so we just dropped off the carry on bags and headed to the buffet.

The dining on the ship was very good except for the buffet. We have liked the buffet on NCL ships in the past but this one on deck 15 seemed tired and unappetizing. The free dining rooms were very good however, especially the Manhattan Room. Savor and Taste dining rooms were good as well and the menu was pretty much the same in each venue. We enjoyed O'Sheehan's Irish Pub style restaurant and ate there for breakfast, lunch and for late night munchies. They are open 24 hours and we would see party people coming in from the bars late at night and also casino patrons. Their Thai Chili chicken wings and the burgers were great! My wife wants me to remind people that there are 2 Maitre D stations at Manhattan Room so if the first one is congested, just walk up to the second one. They will give you a hand held device that lights up when your table is ready, we never waited longer than 20-25 minutes. Special shout out to Mary at the Maitre D desk for seating us at a table next to the dance floor so we could watch the Burn the Floor dining show at Manhattan Room. Thanks Mary!

Cabin Review

Cabin Family Balcony Statement B-3

The Family Balcony Stateroom on deck 12 was pretty comfortable, just a little cramped. Also, we had a problem with the water draining too slowly in the shower. We ended up placing a towel around the outside of the shower door to stop the floor from getting too wet. Balcony was pretty tiny, just 2 small chairs and a small table. There was a lot of room under the bed for our suitcases and also our shoes. Plenty of room in the closet to store our clothes and also a few drawers under the TV. We enjoyed our one cup coffee maker in the morning and our cabin steward gave us coffee creamers daily. Although we were on the same deck as the Splash Academy kids club, we didn't hear much noise and slept very well.
