Caribbean Princess Cruise Review by sailnjmom: Going Downmarket

Embarkation: New York (Manhattan)
We expected better but we enjoyed the vacation anyway. Our first cruise was for our honeymoon in 1972 on the Michaelangelo and there have been many since then. Embarcation at 12:30 was excellent
The ship was well maintained, clean and did not seem crowded considering a sell out. This unless you wanted a seat in the theatre. We hit the rack at 1AM and are up @ 8 so we realy don't care about the cabin. It was well maintained by the steward who provided for our special requests made the day of embarcation. Crew was friendly but not particularly atttentive. Did anybody see much of the cruise director and staff?
Specialty steakhouse was dissapointing. Food was O.k. but the service left much to be desired considering the extra charge. Crumbs left on the table until time for dessert... not good. Biggest complaint.. no wine steward in specialty or Palm restaurant. Can't ask for a suggestion, the ass't waiter takes your order and delivers the bottle within 20 minutes of More ordering while he does his other duties. Maitre'D showed up to do a few handkerchief tricks but did not engage. Wine glasses the same for red and white. Glasses filled to the lip if he notices you need a refill. Room temp Pinot Grigio served and then had to be left in the ice bucket to chill. We liked the fact that meals were indicated as vegeterian for those who care about such things.
Buffet was a big letdown especially if you've been on Celebrity. Choices limited,, did you see more than one type of Danish pastry, I did not. Staff absent or just busing and setting tables so you carry yor own tray, often need to find your own utensils. There were quite a few disabled onboard left to their own devices at the buffet. No indoor Pizza, Sushi, Saladworks bar, custom pasta bar, etc. They were a lot less pushy on the drinks around the decks which was a complaint on our last Princess cruise in the Carib. Entertainment was fine.
How many of you were scammed by the phony 6x9 free photo form your travel agent that was not availabe but were offered a $10 credit on a purchase of something else,, disgraceful. We asked our agent and she knew nothing about this offer although the card said "courtesy of you agent".
There is a first for everything.. SAILNJMOM won $282 at the video poker machine and came home with some of it.
Silent disembacation was excellent and great if you're a local. We were off at 8 and home at 8:45 as we parked 50 feet from the pier for $142 for the duration. Less than a limo!
The economy may be affecting service and offerings but I'll have a better ideas when we sail with Celebrity in January in the Carib. Less

Cabin review: insp339
I'm not a cabin nut as we are late to retire and early to rise and spend little time in the cabin. But.... on the CP if you are on the lowest deck in the front of the ship (p339) you will experience something special. If there is any sea you will hear the bow wave smack the bow of the ship and it's not that smooth wave sound you love to hear from your open balcony doors. This sounds like a freight train comming through your cabin about every 45=60 seconds as the bow pitches down. An Ambien and you're O.K. Always, Always midships... we took a guarantee and this cabin was an outside view upgrade.
