First time aboard this ship, I don't think it shows its age

Review for the Bahamas Cruise on Enchantment of the Seas

I chose the cruise because it happened during the Memorial Day weekend. The alternative was to do Disney again, and I didn't want to do that. Cruises included your meals, while Disney requires that purchase of a Dining Plan to go w/the hotel stay.

Cruise Critic says that the "ship shows its age." Aside from being launched in '97 and having a broken hinge to a cupboard storage area of the cabin bathroom or the clingy shower curtain, I disagree w/Cruise Critic about how Enchantment "showed its age." I chose an outside double cabin that turned out to be somewhat convenient being on the same deck as the MDR (Deck 4). I say "somewhat convenient" because walking through that deck to get to the MDR was like walking through a maze: very confusing. I figured out to get to the MDR eventually. The ship has so many facilities that were new to me, like the Spotlight Lounge (like the Pharaoh's Lounge on Voyager) for such activities like the Quest Game Show. I didn't find the Spotlight Lounge until late Sunday night. I was greatly pleased w/the accommodations for disabled folks: I showed a lot of left leg pain (cramps) during the Muster Drill, and I was shown to a different station where there were many guests w/disabilities and their companions and available chairs--that alternate location was the Bolero's Club. I guess the next time I go on a cruise, I'll self-identify as a person who needs some assistance so that I can attend the Muster Drill at a lounge rather than standing for a long time.

Cabin Review

Panoramic Ocean View Stateroom

Cabin F

The cabin was fine, located on the starboard side forward. I heard very little noise coming from the hallway. I'm glad Royal has a junior cruiser curfew, but you really need to enforce it.

The lights worked fine, the shaver outlet was too high up inside a cubby hole in the bathroom-really Royal, how do you expect short people like me to reach that outlet w/o a stool to use to access the outlet. Please relocate the outlet to another location. Speaking of outlets, I guess one way the ship "shows its age" is by omitting charging outlets for iPhones and iPads. The bed was very comfortable, and the nightstands were conveniently located. Because I was a Diamond member of the Crown and Anchor Society, I was furnished with chocolate-dipped strawberries one evening and cookies the first night.

Port Reviews

Nassau

Nassau is good for people who have never been to The Bahamas before, and would think that the capital is more attractive than Freeport (it is). The big draw of Nassau is the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, its beach, the dolphin experience, the slides at the Mayan temple, and "The Dig" experience. Atlantis has a very large casino, and is reached by either taxi or by ferry boat that docks near a shopping center close to Atlantis. Because I've been to Nassau and Atlantis before, I decided to stay aboard the ship and relax. I also didn't want to shop among the hoards of Carnival guests (there were 3 Carnival ships in port, along w/Enchantment of the Seas). I made a good choice, there, too. So did other guests who decided to stay aboard, swim in the pool, eat in an uncrowded Windjammer, and have great bar service.
