We chose this cruise because we wanted to get a taste of Spain and Celebrity fulfilled our appetite. Every port was an exciting experience, however, Barcelona was a bit of a disappointment. When we travel we seek out the culture of the countries we visit, in Barcelona, in our opinion, it seemed like Barcelonans went to extremes to eradicate its history and construct a modern city over the body of their Spanish cultures. We found none of the historic Spain we were looking for; if you are a student of (modernist) archecture this is the place for you, you'll be introduced to the modernist movement from its earliest roots to today. In short, Barcelona is just another modern city. If you visit Barcelona skip the shore excursion and opt to use the hop on hop off buses, you have 2 days use day one to take both routes (red and green) noting sights you want to see and day two go back and visit them.

Our Gibralter shore excursion was also a bit of a disappointment. When we booked it we thought we would get a tour of Gibralter, what we got was basically a narrated bus ride to Europa Point for a photo opportunity then a bus ride to the Rock Hotel (a very nice hotel) for what was described as an "English tea", after the tea we were driven to the top of the main street on Gibralter and told we could either return to the ship with the bus or walk down to the main town (a very pleasant walk by the way) where we could shop and catch a shuttle (3 euros, a real deal) to return to the ship. Many of the people we spoke to took a shuttle to the main town and picked up private tours there which were much cheaper and much more interesting. If we were to do it over we would opt for this. BTW if you need to find the shuttle from the town square (which is a pedestrian-only zone) go through the arches and catch one of the taxis (3 euros for both my wife and I).

Besides from these two things the accommodations, food, service and quality of the cruise were up to the highest standards we could imagine, we had a concierge stateroom and can't imagine traveling any other way.

Concierge Class 3

Cabin C3

The stateroom itself is no different than any other Viranda stateroom on a Celebrity ship; same size room, same size veranda, same configuration. The difference comes in the amenities; the robes, cosmetics, the daily savories and fresh fruit and the welcome aboard bottle of sparkling wine you also receive a very nice shorebag, the .use of binoculars and a golf umbrella.
