I had always been intrigued with ACL because of the "small cruise sailing" reputation. I was very pleased with the size of the clientele and crew, (143 guests on this particular boat). This enabled one to actually get to know fellow passengers AND crew in the weeks time. We spent an extra day exploring Memphis before we embarked. Once on board, everything was set up for us and we needed to do nothing but enjoy ourselves. The crew (including housekeeping, the wait staff, the GM etc.) was wonderful, very accommodating, very personable, and they all seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the guests. The boat was beautiful, our stateroom was perfect, with a little deck and sliding glass door when you wanted to relax. The food was exquisite, the variety endless and there was NO SHORTAGE of food! It was fun to have alot of Southern cuisine choices, but you weren't held to that.
Shore excursions were very adventurous and there was much variety. I like to learn on my trips, and I was enlightened about Southern culture, the Civil War, cotton ginning. The guides that we had on the tours were very knowledgeable and fun and willing to answer questions and entertain. As was the river laurien, Jim, who gave talks while on board about the river, the wildlife, the culture.
Evening entertainment was awesome as well, once again, being regional and enlightening of the culture, whether it was music, comedy, dancing.
