Cabin: Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Balcony

Just returning to Southampton from a 12 day cruise to Spain, Portugal and Canary Islands. We have taken at least one cruise a year for 25+ years. First let me tell you about the cabin. We were in the aft section on the tail with a large balcony. We used the balcony little because of the weather. It was large and nice when we could use it. The cabins are dated, desperately need new furnishings, carpeting and curtains. We understand that the last remodel focused on the public areas and not the cabins. It is obvious. This is an old ship with small cabins so know that when you buy the cruise. The crew kept the cabin clean and the cabin service was excellent.

The common areas of the ship are beautiful, bright and fun. The buffet area is large but rarely all open at once. The Avenue on the 5th floor is fun and very updated. All in all the common areas are a real plus.

The food. Hmmm. The ship was 75% UK residents so they catered to the population. We would rate the food as average to below average. Very bland and not up to other cruise standards. Out of 12 days the most outstanding food was in the soup area. Other than that do not plan on impressive food. Our dinner service was always excellent and we were very happy with our servers. The staff gets an "A" and the food a C-.
