We use transatlantic cruises as relaxing, cost-effective transportation to Europe. We prefer a ship this size - large enough to feel there are plenty of places to go and things to do, but small enough that you get to know the staff and meet more people.
Our inside cabin was small, as expected, but the furniture placement was awkward. We asked for two of our larger suitcases, which wouldn't fit under the bed, to be stored, but were told it wasn't possible.
Food in the Windjammer was hit and miss, as you might expect. Some things were great, others not so great, but it didn't take us long to get to know what we liked. If you want smoked salmon or tomato juice they're available, but only if you know to ask. I wonder what other things are hidden?
Basic interior cabin, with the bed is oriented stem to stern, rather than side to side, but we never felt any appreciable movement. Due to the awkward furniture layout it was extremely difficult to get to one side of the bed. The bed was comfortable and there were a variety of pillows - soft, hard, etc, so we each found one we liked.
The bathroom was small as expected, but there was very little storage space. The only amenities provided were tissues and (shower)soap in a built in dispenser.
Our cabin steward did an excellent job, was always friendly, and was never in our way. Almost every crew member we dealt with was friendly and helpful.
We chose our cabin based on location and were satisfied - we had no noise from above or below, and the hallway doors blocked any noise from the Centrum at night.
While I appreciate the logistics, Key West doesn't have much to offer. A tram tour of the island and a visit to Hemingway's house and you're done - unless you want to spend the day in souvenir shops or bars.
Perhaps we should have taken an excursion because there was not a lot to see on foot. We wandered a bit, had one drink - at a bar owned by an American who's a huge Ohio State fan! - and went back to the ship.
We've been to Malaga before and really enjoy this port. It's a pleasant 20-30 minute walk into town, and we always take advantage of this opportunity to walk off a few of the desserts. Previously we've taken the HOHO bus and 2 different walking tours. This time we just wandered, visited the Cathedral and the new art/archeological museum, which was very nice.
Our time in Cartegena was very short - I think we departed at 2 p.m., but luckily we've been here before. There is a lot to see and do, many Roman ruins, lots of shops and restaurants.
