I have to be honest. I booked this cruise not having high expectations for the ship itself. I booked it because I was going to be in New Orleans the following weekend and though it would be great to combine it with this sailing. I was traveling alone, so this was a great thing to do to meet people. As with most cruise lines, Carnival uses their older ships for shorter cruises. The Carnival Fantasy was built in 1991. At that time, it was one of the larger ships sailing. Now it would be considered a mid-size ship. I am going to breakdown this review in sections.

Cabin: Compared to other cruises I have been on, this was my 16th, I found the cabin a bit basic. I miss having a little sofa and table in the cabin. The only place to be comfortable outside of the bed was the desk. I guess Carnival thinks it would make the cabin too crowded. It just makes the cabin look more basic. The cabin itself looked fine. The paint job they did looked a bit rushed. You can still see the old color in spots. The bed is really comfortable. The bathroom was a good size with a normal size shower. I had a outside cabin right on the back of the ship. It was nice have a more panaramic view, but they do need to clean the windows a bit more often. There were dead bugs on the ledge of the window on the outside, lots of them. Overall, the cabin met my expectations.

Food: This was my biggest surprise. For the most part, the food was great in the dining room. Avoid Braised Short Ribs, it is basically Dry slices of Pot Roast. I had breakfast in the Dining Room as well. Not a big Buffet person. Had breakfast once on the Lido. It was ok, but nothing special. The sandwiches at the Deli was great. Recommend it. The pizza was ok, it reminded my of Little Ceasars. Great Hamburgers as well. I did have a sushi 1 night and it was good and fresh. Room Service was ok. You can get any of the Deli sandwiches as room service. Overall, the food exceeded my expectations.
