Sail Date: May 2017

Living in NY meant no flying and date of sailing fit in with my upcoming birthday (tomorrow). First time on Breakaway, but not with NCL.

We found that descriptions did not always match reality. A lot of "hype" in some cases such as saying with vegetables and getting a total of 6 peas and carrots!!!! Food in Savor, Taste, and theme lunch buffets in Moderno on sea days were excellent along with the service. Best service was in Savor. Manhattan Room was disappointing regarding service and food itself. Beef lasagna was loads of chopped meat with a slice of pasta on top, but no layers, minestrone soup had no noodles, but chopped califlower, "Classic Caesar" salad (great tasting dressing) came with pieces of toasted Italian bread and pieces of grilled chicken but no anchovies.

Garden Buffet -- food was lukewarm, bread/rolls lacked taste, cheddar cheese did not melt in omelets (used sliced cheese from the cold cuts instead), waffles/pancakes were missing some ingredient, vegetables: broccoli (undercooked), green & yellow squash, eggplant, potatoes.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BD

Pillows were horrible! Even with several of them, you did not get good support. Mattress was lumpy.

Bathroom had plenty of storage space, shower worked well.

Lots of storage in cabin via shelf space, no drawers. Beware of metal edges around mattress and sofa since you will be saying "ouch" a lot if you don't. They are basically platforms on which the cushion/mattress sits. Also, drawers under sofa may not be fully shut so your toes will hit it first as you approach the sofa.

Port Reviews

New York (Manhattan)

Delayed boarding due to late arrival of previous cruise. Luckily we arrived at the port by 10:30 AM, were checked in and had #1 boarding (Platinum) pass and were shown to seats in the disabled section.

Several times, the check-in process was halted due to the terminal being full. People were sitting on the floor. Port staff did their best to find seats for anyone who looked like they needed one.

It was after 12:30 PM by the time we finally boarded and were able to drop off our carryons.
