Cabin: French Balcony

We chose because of our experiences in three previous Viking River cruises. This is a repeat cruise for us which we undertook because we wanted to participate in it with a group of friends.

- We didn't have much time to explore Basel, although some of our party of 8 did actually go on a walking tour of the city near the ship's location.

- As always, embarkation was OUTSTANDING!

Cabin Review

French Balcony

Cabin D

THIS IS NOT A BALCONY SUITE. That is a misnomer and fooled us. There IS a sliding door, floor-to-ceiling, which opens to the outside with a waist-high glass panel and wooden rail. But there is no "outside space" or outside chairs and table. You have to move to the next level of room/cabin to get the real balcony.

The suite, although quite small (the smallest we've experienced) is well appointed with MANY 110-volt outlets (a nice appointment in a European cabin). The shower is, of course, too small for rather large people like us and I had a difficult time feeling clean.

Beds are comfortable and sleep was easy. Lots of clever lighting.

Port Reviews

Cologne

Rainy so didn't want to leave the ship. But I've seen the magnificent Cologne Cathedral (affectionately called "the Dom") and can't recommend it highly enough. It may be the most magnificent cathedral in Europe.

Heidelberg

There's a delightful square or two in Old Heidelberg with shops and restaurants. A warm, sunny May day made sipping coffee and watching people a wonderful way to pass a couple of hours.

Koblenz

A walking tour of the point where the Mosel and the Rhine meet is a wonderful setting with a huge statue of Kaiser Wilhelm I and a delightful community behind.
