Serenade of the Seas is an 18 year old ship that was the queen of the fleet when first launched but is now showing her age. We were told she is going to go through dry dock and updating in December of this year. Nothing about this Royal Caribbean Norway Fjords cruise was sub-standard or poor. Likewise, aside from visiting Geiranger, was outstanding on this cruise. This outside balcony cabin was clean and the same as every other outside balcony cabin I have had (4 total). Only cabin comment is that deck 6,7 & 8 amidships is recessed and over the life boats so you do not look straight down to the sea. Same deck further forward or aft would be more desireable. I have learned that early, or late dining is desirable over "my time" dining because you keep the same table for every evening meal along with the same waiter and you don't have to wait for a table for each meal.If you miss the start time they are required to give you the next "my time" table. We were told that the new Royal Caribbean Ships will all be "My time" dining and eventually so will every ship in the Royal Caribbean fleet. Evening shows were very good to excellent. No complaints. Service was excellent in every way. This cruise started in Copenhagen stopping in Stavanger, Bergen, Alesund and Geiranger. If your goal is to get a good overview of Norway, this schedule is outstanding. If it is to see fjords only Bergen and Geiranger are classic fjord cities. And Bergen requires an excursion to actually get into the fjord. Geiranger however, is outstanding! Up a 50 mile fjord to the end of the fjord to a small town surrounded by 3,000 foot cliffs with hundreds of free falling water falls. Truly a bucket list experience.
