We chose this cruise because we wanted to see Cuba. The cruise was a great first introduction to the country. We had almost two full days on shore in Havana. The last day was a relaxing beach day on NCL's private island (nice beach!). The ship was adequate but nothing special. Our room was clean but small. Our cabin attendant was attentive. The food in the dining room was good with a menu that could please many different tastes. The open bar made up for the small cabin and few "wow" amenities. In Havana, we had one disappointing shore excursion, one good one, and one outstanding tour. The outstanding tour was to the Tropicana. It was a spectacular show and well worth our time. I also took the "THE LIFE OF HEMINGWAY IN HAVANA" tour. His home is a picturesque Spanish colonial set on a hillside outside the city. As a literary fan, I was in literary heaven. The disappointing excursion was "TODAY IN HAVANA." We signed up for it because it was supposed to include a tour of a rum factory, a cigar factory and an art studio. None of these things happened. The closest we got to the promised sites was a cigar store. We would have been better off hiring a driver to take us around to the things we wanted to see (for less money, too). Outside the cruise terminal are cabbies with restored '50s convertibles who give a custom tour of Havana for $50 an hour (you can negotiate for less if you're not hooked on a convertible). We hired a driver on the second day and had a fabulous experience. We enjoyed Cuba very much and hope to go back soon!

Cabin Review

Balcony

We had three in our cabin. It was very tight. The pullout bed was not very comfortable. We've been on other cruises were the third bed was a bunk with a real mattress. The room was adequate but seemed plain and functional.

Port Reviews

Havana

Visited Hemingway's home outside the city. The setting is beautiful and the house is exactly the way Hemingway left it in 1960--down to the magazines and newspapers in the rooms. Nice to see a bit of the countryside, too.

Great Stirrup Cay

This was a surprise bonus. The island was lovely. The water was warm, clear and calm. We rented floaties and got a stunning sun burn.
