This was our first Alaskan cruise and we thought it was the best ever! We flew to Seattle on May 6th. We had never been to Seattle before and enjoyed a whole day there before the cruise started on May 8th, We stayed at the Hampton Inn and Suites at the airport, 28th avenue. It was a nice hotel with a good breakfast. We took the light rail into Seattle for the day on Sunday. We enjoyed walking around Seattle and going to Pike's Place. We also took a ferry ride to an island and ate dinner there and had very good pizza. My only regret is that I didn't take my heavy winter coat. It was very cold on the ferry ride and some ports in Alaska. Thankfully, our son did take a heavy coat and he let me wear it on the ride over.

We booked with Seattle Express for the shuttle to the port from the hotel. We arrived at the port around 11:00 and were on the ship by 12:00. Embarkation was a little confusing following the signs around. Usually we get in the Platinum line as soon as we enter the terminal but it was not like that in Seattle.

I had read a lot of reviews about the Legend before we went and was a little concerned about it because of some negative reviews. Our family has been on many Carnival ships, including the Dream and Breeze both two times. I think the Legend is one of our favorite ships now. I guess you can look for rust and find it in places like on the balcony, but there was nothing that bothered me about the ship being older. We loved the size of the ship!

Balcony

Cabin 8B

Loved our balcony room! Everything was clean. The beds didn't seem as comfortable as they used to but still a great room.

Port Reviews

Seattle

We just took the light rail into Seattle from our airport hotel and walked around Pike's Place first. Later in the afternoon, we took a ferry over to an island and had dinner. We walked for over 10 miles that day.

Juneau

We rented a car and drove to the glacier. It was a rainy day but we still enjoyed it.

Saved money by renting a car for our family of 6.

Ketchikan

We did the walking tour through town. Enjoyed all the shops and scenery! Part of our family went to Totem bight and enjoyed it. The best shopping port is Ketchikan. Skagway was good also.

Victoria

Our least favorite port. Ours was an 8 night cruise and would have preferred staying at any of the other ports for 2 days instead of Victoria. We walked into town and back which was over 5 miles in all for us. We had a late lunch on the ship and never went back out. Fisherman's Wharf and Inner Harbor were nice.
