This was our first river cruise and we went with friends. We spent 3 days in Prague beforehand to adjust from jet lag before joining the Atla in Nuremberg and thoroughly enjoyed it. On board the entire crew treated us like royalty and did everything possible to make the trip memorable. The Maitre d' helped with personalized menu adjustments for food allergies every morning making the meals more enjoyable than we'd ever experienced. The local guides did a great job providing local and regional history and tips for further exploring. Everything did not go as planned however, and spring rains created flooding conditions on the river that eventually stranded us in Regensburg, no longer able to get under the low bridges. The program director worked tirelessly to make and remake alternative plans to insure we were still able to have a great cruise experience and she succeeded. Even though we eventually had to pack up and bus over to a sister ship on the other side of the low bridges, they worked to make that inconvenience as painless as possible. In direct opposition to another cruise line we sailed earlier in the year, Viking never tried to sell us any products or hound us with sales pitches for future cruises unless we specifically wanted the information. The next time we cruise we will definitely consider Viking as they really excel in providing excellent customer service!

Nuremberg

I didn't realize how spread out the city is and so didn't expect a lengthy bus ride into the city by a few of the notable sites. Once off the bus, the walking tour was good and very informative.

Regensburg

It's a beautiful place, the local guide did an excellent job providing an informative historical tour. We loved being able to walk off the ship right into the old city and took advantage to go back wandering after lunch. Certainly a place we'd like to visit again.

Passau

Another very interesting and welcoming city. We did a little local shopping and had plenty of time to wander about after the city tour.

Vienna

What a wonderful city! There are so many things to see here with surprises at every turn. We nicknamed the shopping district "rodeo drive" and wandered out away from the crowded expensive area for more local flavor. Take time to sit in an outdoor cafe with some coffee and watch people. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here.

Budapest

We made a decision to stay on board instead of doing the City Tour to enjoy cruising down the Danube since the flooding conditions had kept us from doing that. It was a tough choice and we wished we'd had more time in the city although the trip down the river was definitely worthwhile. The Thermal Baths were amazing and just the ticket to soak our travel weary bodies.

Prague

There is so much history and wonderful sights to see here. The local guide was excellent providing history and perspective we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. We took the next couple of days to wander around the city and even took a train out to see Karlstegn Castle. We had a wonderful time here!
