We sailed on the Dawn from Boston to Bermuda. The weather was horrible; however, that is not the Dawn's fault. I was less than impressed, however, by the lack of personalization by staff towards passengers. When I traveled on Royal Caribbean we were treated very differently by staff. We felt like our trip was special and that the staff cared. Staff called us by name, knew what we liked or didn’t liked and provided us with an overall feeling of being a part of something. We didn’t have this experience on the Dawn and to be honest, felt at certain times that staff was doing us a favor. The disinterest was apparent and that greatly affected our trip.
We enjoyed the food on RC and were excited to try it on this trip. We were sorely disappointed in the food on the Dawn. The buffet was disgusting as it lacked edible flavor and was mostly cold. The complementary restaurants were barley palatable. The a la carte restaurants were the best choices but even those meals were so full of salt that you felt as if you were eating a salt lick.
Our bathroom was not cleaned upon our arrival as there were urine stains on the toilet and someone else’s used soap in our shower. Our steward never changed our sheets or vacuumed. He also knocked every morning at our door (multiple times) despite our “do not disturb” sign. One time he came in when we were in bed sleeping and other times when I was in my towel. One time he mumbled “in and out in and out” under his breath regarding my husband entering our room a few times that day. Does this sound like hospitality to you because it sure as heck doesn’t to me?
