Let me start by saying I really hate complaining but in this case I felt it was warranted. We sailed on the majesty of the Sea’s out of Port Canaveral on 3/13/17 – 3/17/17. We quickly found out after being on the boat a short while, many of the customers we were sailing with were “free cruisers” who got a complimentary cruise for attending a time share presentation. We were not. . Let me make this perfectly clear…money was not an issue when booking a cruise…we were not looking for the most affordable or cheap cruise. We were planning our honey moon not a discounted booze/gambling cruise. Ultimately that’s all there really was to do on this boat. We are paying customers and had I known I was booking a cruise on a boat that has a lot of “free cruisers” I would’ve politely declined and went with a more upscale boat. This was a very important, one of the most important trips of our lifetime. It was our honeymoon. We not only entrusted our travel agent and her expertise, since we were first time cruisers, to assist us in choosing the right cruise line/ship that was right for us but we entrusted Royal Caribbean with living up to basic expectations such as cleanliness, hot food, our drink package, working facilities, etc.

Some of the issues my wife and I experienced could’ve been prevented and would’ve made our cruise more tolerable. We experienced very poor customer service, especially from the guest relations desk. We had to ask several times to gets things fixed and we always got the same response “I’m so sorry. We will get someone to fix that right away”. Lack of staff responsibility with fixing things that were noticeably broken and obviously disturbing to the guests. I had a door; feet from where I laid my head that slammed because the mechanics on top that help slow the door down was broken. That coupled with the very windy conditions caused the door to slam so hard I could not only hear it but I could feel it in my bed. (I have a video of the door if you’re interested) The first time it slammed behind me it startled me so much I dropped my I Phone and cracked the screen! This lasted for 3 days this door slamming hundreds of times a day. I watched dozens of RC staff from maintenance men to higher up staff who wear the white shirts with stripes on the sleeves walk through that door over and over letting it slam. I work in the healthcare industry and at my place of employment we have a culture that if something is broken or can cause an injury or disturbance, it’s EVERYONE's job to make our customers safe and happy. It’s everyone's job to report these things not just walk by them basically saying “it’s not my job, not my problem”. How can so many of your staff not care that a slamming door was right next to a cabin? This "I don't care attitude" was felt all the way through my cruise. It took 3 days and multiple complaints to guest services to get that door fixed! Additionally my bathroom toilet broke. We again went to guest services. My wife explained that we had to use the public restrooms and that several of the ones we encountered were filthy, toilets filled with feces and many had no toilet paper. Matter of fact I had to hand a poor girl in the next stall toilet paper under the stall door because she was out. Now it doesn’t take being in the healthcare industry to know that this against infection control practices and could definitely lead to a Noro Virus outbreak…really? Handing other people toilet paper from under your stall? Well it was either take toilet paper from a stranger’s dirty hands or not wipe…great choices. Again we got the "I'm so sorry” from guest services and “we will get someone up to fix your toilet right away". WOW! There goes that "I don't care" attitude again...he didn't even ask me which bathrooms I had encountered that needed obvious maintenance and housekeeping attention. I was appalled. If that happened at my hospital I not only would be very embarrassed but I'd have my housekeeping crew ASAP in those bathrooms. When we returned to our room later that day our toilet was still not fixed. Our wonderful room attendant Jaya was there and said not to worry he notified the appropriate people and they'd be coming soon to fix the toilet. We really wanted to just take a nap because obviously we had not been sleeping well and now we were waiting on maintenance. So we decided to go out and spend some time on the ship. When we returned a few hours later, the toilet was still not fixed. This time, I not so politely demanded that guest services send up a repair man to fix my stateroom toilet. I hated that it came to that but our first two very polite requests fell on deaf ears. They were there within minutes and it took all of 3-4 minutes to fix my toilet.

We thought this cruise was going to be luxurious, romantic, fun, with staff catering to us and making our trip special. It was the complete opposite. It was dirty with subpar food that was never hot, boring shows and downright dumb and childish events like scavenger hunts and poolside Jenga. We didn’t have much to do, we were afraid to get off the boat in Nassau due to the Embassy warning of crimes against tourists, especially us being two gay females. Then the one day we were going to have a really romantic day on Coco Cay in a private cabana I rented...it got cancelled due to weather. That coupled with “maintenance issues” delaying our boarding and us losing the first day just made this even worse. Now I work in the healthcare/hospitality field and frequently have to plan outdoor parties or events for our customers...we ALWAYS have backup plans if weather changes and that happens frequently here in Florida. There was no other back up plan except "Go ahead and stay out all night in Nassau and have fun"...WHAT! REALLY?! It’s rated one of the top 10 most dangerous ports! Movies by the pool?…it was cold and so windy we couldn’t even go to Coco Cay but I should go enjoy a movie poolside? The dining room had decent food but it never came to the table hot and the tables were so close together you couldn’t even have a conversation without the next table jumping in like it was an open invitation to join our private conversation. We wanted romance and togetherness…not cozying up to Bubba who just got his free cruise for watching a timeshare he had no plans on buying. Maybe instead of trying to pack so many people into one small space and giving them a lackluster experience, you should take reservations and limit the seating to give your customers a more lavish experience that can be personal and romantic. You have to know you have many honeymooners on your ships. Additionally; we received an invitation to “cordially attend a special honeymooner champagne breakfast between 830am-9am in the main dining room on Wednesday 3/15/17”. My wife didn’t really want to get up that early, but so far this hadn’t felt like a honeymoon and I just wanted a little “newlywed” recognition. We got to the dining room about 840am and it was packed. We were a little confused and my wife said to the staff member seating us “So this is not a special honeymooner’s breakfast?” The attendant stated “Follow me” so we assumed he was going to seat us in a special area for honeymooners…nope! Just regular old dining room service with toast so cold even the softest butter wouldn’t melt on it… I’m not sure why I expected anything less. My wife kept holding out saying no this has to be a special breakfast until they sat two sisters in the table to our right and a married couple and their two grown children to the left. Of course we knew this because the tables were so close we could hear their conversations. Again I had to watch my wife be disappointed and let down.

Cabin Review

Ocean View Stateroom

Okay...hard bed, slamming door outside my cabin made it difficult to sleep. Toilet broke after first day.
